Job Description Summary

Electronic Court Reporters (ECRs) manage the verbatim capture of legal proceedings through utilization of audio and visual technology. In the role of Electronic Court Reporter Trainer, an individual will assist in the development of curriculum, maintain, and lead training programs for ECRs in various territories. The trainer will oversee training of new hires and ensure they are knowledgeable, competent and prepared to sit for state and/or local certification exams. In addition, the ECR Trainer will monitor curriculum and training and amend as required to meet changing industry trends and business objectives.

Job Duties:

  • Compose and execute ECR training programs throughout the United States
  • Organize and facilitate training sessions for various offices
  • Able to edit, proofread, and evaluate work submitted by ECR trainees
  • Must identify weakness and strengths of trainees early in the training process to ensure trainee success
  • Use applicable teaching styles that will result in higher training program completion and success rates
  • Hold staff accountable and ensure training resources are being properly used
  • Provide excellent customer service and have a self-starter mentality
  • Research and recommend digital recording, case management, and transcription production software to improve overall efficiency of training programs
  • Partner with the IT department to further streamline ECR technology used
  • Devise strategies with leadership to increase retention and performance of ECR staff
  • Work with Human Resources to consistently improve the ECR hiring process
  • Participate in recruiting and screening efforts to ensure qualified candidates are hired
  • Detect and anticipate issues with training and/or development of trainees
  • Create detailed reports with metrics set by management
  • Other special projects as assigned by management

Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies or a related field
  • American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers (AAERT) certification and ongoing renewal
  • Certified Notary Public Certification and ongoing renewal
  • 5+ years in the Court Reporting industry
  • Experience working with and facilitating teams
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Knowledgeable of court reporting procedures, practices, and protocols
  • Familiarity with computers and troubleshooting computer equipment
  • Proficient with legal terminology and language dictation
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel as necessary throughout the United States
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, stoop and lift equipment up to 50 pounds
