POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion:

  • Provides vision and works collaboratively across the college to build and create initiatives focused on supporting the needs of our entire college population with diverse, multiple and intersecting identities;

  • Provides leadership, advocacy, and programming to strengthen the culture of inclusion and diversity at Moravian College;

  • Serves on the President's Council and provides guidance to ensure that diversity, equity and inclusion remain integral in all dimensions of the College.

  • Participates in the design and implementation of strategic plan initiatives

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Leadership

  1. The Associate Provost for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) will provide overall strategic leadership to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion;

  2. Work collaboratively with the executive leadership team of the College to set and advance strategic priorities and policies related to diversity, equity and inclusion;

  3. Provide strategic direction, operational oversight and guidance for the College's diversity, equity and inclusion plan in alignment with the strategic plan;

  4. Co-chair the President's Council on Diversity and Inclusion and the Bias Response and Intervention Team;

  5. Work with the Senior Diversity Officer and the Director of Research and Education in DEI.

  6. Oversee shared administrative support.

 

 

Programming

  1. Lead and support highly visible educational and awareness events and activities throughout the year to create a movement for cultural competency in terms of DEI;

  2. Facilitate community-building and identify allies to support a safe, welcoming, and inclusive campus climate for all students, faculty and staff;

  3. Teach one course a year, as need is determined in collaboration with the relevant department chair and the Provost;

 

Retention and Recruitment Efforts

  1. Collaborate with the College’s efforts to recruit, support, and retain students and employees from all backgrounds;

  2. Create a strong partnership with the Provost, Academic Deans, and Faculty to advance the college's efforts to recruit, support, and retain diverse faculty and offer a curriculum that reflects the values of diversity, equity and inclusion;

  3. Explore ways to incorporate diversity, equity and inclusion performance-indicators and assessment into College employee practices;

 

Outreach and Collaboration

  1. Coordinate and support the work of Student Affairs, campus departments and students that advance social justice and foster cultural and historical awareness;

  2. Identify and connect key local leaders and businesses with students, faculty, and staff to enhance the College's diversity presence in the Greater Lehigh Valley.

  3. Partner with Diversity Administrators within the Lehigh Valley Area Independent Colleges (LVAIC) consortium (Cedar Crest, Lafayette and Muhlenberg Colleges and DeSales and Lehigh Universities).

  4. Serve as an advocate, mentor, and resource in support of underrepresented students, faculty and staff.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in a related field/discipline and at least 5 years of experience with institutional leadership, programming, and multicultural organizations. A strong understanding of contemporary diversity, equity, inclusion concepts/issues as they apply to higher education and in the pursuit of social justice.
