Description

Reports to: Development and Marketing Officer (DMO)

Under the direction of the DMO, the Donor Relations Manager curates and helps to cultivate the relationships necessary to strengthen the individual and institutional giving pipeline for the Food Bank. The DRM facilitates positive, long-term donor relationships by supporting and staffing the CEO, DMO and board members’ work with major donors. Key responsibilities include managing a comprehensive outreach strategy for individual donors and those giving through their donor advised funds and excellent attention to detail and follow through.

Manage Donor Outreach

  • Oversee a comprehensive program for engaging individual donors at the $1,000 to $100,000 gift level through cultivation, stewardship and acknowledgement.
  • Provide staffing for CEO, Board, and DMO for cultivation, solicitation or stewardship purposes.
  • Research donor information/giving history/background/wealth to provide insight to CEO, Board or DMO.
  • Maintain a donor moves calendar to support outreach and stewardship.
  • Manage the Sustaining Donor portfolio.
  • Steward current major donors both individual and those giving through a Donor Advised Fund.
  • Identify and promote cultivation of potential new donors/prospects.
  • Identify and support relationships with foundations and key program officers responsible for managing Donor Advised Funds.

Develop annual plan with clear goals and objectives for growing major gifts

  • Develop the overall strategic direction and budget for soliciting, cultivating and stewarding major donors.
  • Work with Development & Marketing Officer to establish goals for Major Donor outreach and revenue.

Represent the Food Bank in collaborative partnership opportunities

  • Represent Second Harvest with the utmost professionalism at community and networking functions (Rotary, Chamber events, and other service based organizations), which will require occasional evening and weekends.
  • Assist with special events, press conferences, speaking opportunities, food bank tours, etc. as needed.
  • Participate as an active member in county-wide collaborative efforts to increase awareness of food insecurity in our community.

Reporting and Storytelling

  • Maintain donor confidentiality.
  • Update donor records and assist in the management of Second Harvest’s customer relationship management (CRM) system.
  • Document donor stories to help spread awareness and support for the food bank and its programs.

Job Details: This is a full-time, regular, non-exempt position with a competitive salary. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance; life, long-term disability, AD&D, and long-term care insurance; 403b retirement fund; and generous paid time off. Position requires working occasional nights and/or weekends.

Position Requirements

Education and Experience

A BA/BS degree from an accredited educational institution, or an equivalent combination of education/ experience. Two or more years of fund development or executive assistant experience, resulting in stronger relationships and a track record of professionalism. A deep commitment and interest in social justice and the mission of SHFB. Ideally this candidate would be interesting in building a career in direct donor outreach.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability

  • Superb interpersonal skills and the ability to actively listen.
  • Ability to take initiative, coordinate with others, meet deadlines and follow through in fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, presentation and networking skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency using fund raising databases, MS Office, and other applicable applications.
  • Ability to work as a part of a team to promote the vision and mission of Second Harvest, which includes appropriate communication, teamwork, employee satisfaction, and employee retention.
  • Ability to interact positively with a diverse community of staff and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to take on new projects.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise written reports and verbal presentations.
  • Ability to handle confidential information, and not use it for personal leverage.
  • Foreign language skills (particularly Spanish) a plus.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have access to a motor vehicle, as well as valid auto insurance coverage, for occasional driving on the job.
  • Must have valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record, as documented by a current MVR (will be obtained by the Food Bank’s insurance carrier).
  • It is the responsibility of all SHFB personnel to participate in our Food Safety/Food Defense programs.
