Senior Linguists shall be prepared and qualified to provide translation and transcription services to include the translation of written, electronic and multi-media material. Materials include, but are not limited to: business, legal, medical, technical, documents, software, website localization for video subtitling and captioning. Services also include, but are not limited to, formatting, proofreading, editing, graphic design, and desktop publishing.
Linguists may be requested to perform interpretation services if qualified. Interpretation includes, but is not limited to, consecutive, escort, telephonic, and voiceovers. Interpreter forums may include meetings, conferences, seminars, briefings, training, military operations, law enforcement, intelligence, and operational support. Additionally, linguists may be asked to process workflow functions, such as performing Quality Assurance (QA), when not utilized for translation purposes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Linguist must:
Write and speak clearly and coherently in a Foreign Language and English;
Translate or interpret conversations;
Be familiar with the Translation Industry Standards for Quality Translations
Maintain the integrity and meaning of the material through translations;
Translate general and technical content to and from a Source Language and English;
Quickly scan and accurately translate a large amount of material;
Provide quality translations in the time allotted;
Be able to leverage resources to ensure appropriate and accurate translations in the domain
Read a variety of unfamiliar subjects, relate ideas and make inferences, and accurately interpret the intent of the writer;
Converse professionally in formal and informal situations, resolve problems, work with unfamiliar topics, provide explanations, offer supported opinions and hypothesize;
Familiarity with Computer Assisted Translation Tools, such as Translation Memory, Terminology Management Databases, and online dictionaries.
Senior Linguists assist in the quality control of linguist production services by:
Conducting periodic reviews and evaluations of translated documents;
Providing comments, corrections, and recommendations for translated material;
Delegating tasks according to a linguist's knowledge and abilities;
Clarifying expectations of responsibilities for supported linguists;
Communicating effectively and readily sharing expertise with others;
Developing appropriate training aids for continuous output improvement;
Identifying areas of weakness and providing solutions for development;
Identifying training opportunities and requirements;
Identifying needed resources to improve operational capabilities;
Acting as a representative at training opportunities, and Linguist/Translation Groups, thus playing an active role in sustaining transliteration standards of the client’s practices and operations.
Language Proficiency Requirements:
Each linguist under this contract must be proficient (as described below) in at least one of the following languages:
