Oral History Projects Intern - Summer 2020 (Academy Gold)

Summary:

The Oral History department is seeking a summer intern to assist the department and support the development of a large preservation and access initiative that is specifically for oral histories with filmmakers. This internship supports the original productions of the Visual History Program, a born-digital recording initiative of long-form video interviews with influential filmmakers, craftspeople and technologists. This collection is currently made up of more than 200 interviews, and over 800 content hours.

Under the guidance of the Sr. Archivist of Oral History Projects, you will focus on a variety of archival and production related tasks, such as: collections processing and inventorying; organizing interview related materials such as transcripts, photographs, and production notes; facilitating production planning, logistics, and coordination; interview note-taking; and correspondence with interviewees and their teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Production Coordinator and Sr. Manager in oral history production planning and logistics.
  • Assist in day-of shoot logistics, coordination (runner), and notetaking.
  • Assist department staff with tasks related to transcription, DVD authorizing, labeling, and QC.
  • Index timecode of interviews.
  • Inventory new collection materials.
  • Write interview summaries, abstracts and bios, and collection profiles.
  • Assist with file and records management.
 
Position Requirements
  • Current undergraduate (junior or senior) or graduate film student.
  • Strong interest in moving image archive studies or library science with a focus on audiovisual archives.
  • Knowledge of and interest in film history.
  • Cataloging/data entry and file management experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets (including Excel and Google Docs)
  • Excellent problem-solving, multitasking, and project management skills.
  • Must be organized and enthusiastic, with a comfort level in fast-paced production environments.

This internship is part of the Academy Gold Program, an 8-week internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
