Summary:

Boss Film Studio was a major special effects house in the 80s and 90s, providing effects for films such as Die Hard, Ghostbusters, and Waterworld. After the studio’s closure in 1997, much of its film material eventually found its way to the Academy’s Film Archive.

 

In processing this collection, you will gain experience in the everyday workings of a film archive, be introduced to our cataloging and collection management systems, and develop skills in how to properly handle and inspect film and video material.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Inspection and evaluation of archival materials, including 35mm, 65mm, and 70mm film, as well as some video material.
  • Research and identification of material in collection.
  • Entry of catalog records in our in-house database.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements
  • Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in film archiving, film production, library and information science, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of and/or interest in film history, production, and technology, particularly special effects and/or large format film.
  • Film-handling experience desired, but not required.
  • An inquisitive nature with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to lift and move at least 40 lbs.

 

This internship is part of the Academy Gold Program, an 8-week internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
