About the Organization The mission of Fenway Health is to enhance the wellbeing of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQIA+) community and all people in our neighborhoods and beyond through access to the highest quality health care, education, research, and advocacy. Fenway Health was founded in 1971 and has grown from a less than 10 person operation in the basement of a building near the Boston Fens to one of the largest LGBT-focused organizations in the world. It consists of three main centers:

• Fenway Community Health Center, our clinical arm, which is a federally qualified health center that operates three clinic sites (Fenway:1340, Fenway:South End, and the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center) in the Boston area and provides over 30,000 patients with primary and specialty medical care, behavioral health care, optometry care, and dental care;

• The Fenway Institute, our research/training/education/policy development arm, which houses numerous research initiatives as well as the National LGBT Education Project, the LGBT Aging Project, the National Center for Innovation in HIV Care, and the Center for Population Research in LGBT Health; and

• AIDS Action, our HIV/AIDS service organization, which provides nonclinical services (case management, housing and legal assistance, outreach, peer support) to people living with HIV/AIDS and operates numerous programs focusing on HIV/STD prevention/testing/treatment, including the Access (drug user health program), TransCEND (transgender peer support and risk reduction program), and Youth on Fire (drop-in center for homeless and street-involved youth) programs.

The Receptionist and Reception Safety Assistant greets visitors face to face who present at the agency, providing immediate access to information and to staff members. The Assistant is responsible for monitoring client/visitor restroom safety and provides back-up coverage to the Front Desk Receptionist.

Representative Duties:

  1. Receive and respond to visitors, providers, and clients in a timely and sensitive manner. Assist visitors in assessing the purpose of their visit and connect them to the appropriate staff person.
  2. Monitor safety of the client/visitor restroom throughout the day by following the safety protocol and immediately alerting the appropriate staff member(s) to respond to medical emergencies, including overdoses.
  3. Provide back-up coverage to Front Desk Receptionist by answer incoming calls and transferring calls to the appropriate staff member, department, or service.
  4. Assist with opening and closing duties; ensure reception area, client meeting rooms, and restrooms are secured at the beginning and end of each day.
  5. Maintain front reception area and ensure the area is free from clutter throughout the day. Replenish visitor coffee station and resource materials as needed.
  6. Provide administrative support to other departments as needed.
  7. Perform related duties and projects as assigned

Position Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, administrative and interpersonal skills required.
  • Customer service experience required.
  • Ability to take initiative and to respond to stressful and emergency situations in a calm and professional manner
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment
  • HIV/AIDS awareness and sensitivity
  • Interest and commitment to working with issues related to HIV/AIDS, substance use, harm reduction, homelessness, mental health and LGBTQ and bi-lingual/bi-cultural communities
