The Telecommunications Technician will support efforts for the Continuity Communications Division (CCD) program which supports 83 FEMA National Radio System (FNARS) sites in the US, and multiple hurricane staging areas.

Additional Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited To:

  • Assist with analysis and development, and implementation of testing terrestrial and wire networks.
  • Available for travel 90% of the time.
  • Perform both secure / non-secure telephone, satellite phone, and FAX machine troubleshooting / fault isolation and operation to include Type 1 encrypted secure communications.
  • Perform initial configuration and installation, fault isolation, troubleshooting and repair / replacement of power supplies, exciters, power amplifiers, LMR base stations, repeaters, duplexers and antenna systems including remote antenna / radio control / switching equipment to the lowest replaceable unit (LRU).
  • Install, configure, optimize, perform operations and maintenance (O&M) to High Power Fixed Plant and Desk Top High Frequency (HF) systems and sub-systems and HF radio equipment using the manufacturers radio programming and configuration software package that manages radio code plug and configuration parameters.
  • Construct and install various Radio Frequency (RF) and baseband audio cables. Transistor to Transistor Logic (TTL) serial level cables used for interconnections between various RF equipment, remote control equipment including RF antenna switching, audio management panels and computer based remote control units.
  • Configure and operate various RF test equipment including service monitors, spectrum analyzers, watt meters, antenna analyzers, and basic electrical and electronic test equipment such as volt-ohm meters, power / signal monitoring equipment, cable crimping tools, soldiering irons and general related hand tools.
  • Interpret schematics and engineering drawings along with the ability to create and update engineering drawings and documentation on existing RF systems.
  • To install and configure equipment as designed per engineering drawings.
  • To construct per engineering drawings various RF cables, baseband audio cables, TTL level and serial cables such as RJ-11, RJ-45, DB-9, DB-15, DB-25, N-type, BNC, TNC, UHF, Mini UHF and SMA connectors on CAT 5, fiber optic, co-ax, and transmission line cables.
  • Perform fault isolation, repair / replace various RF system antenna such as monopoles, dipoles, and Yagi antennas to include rotatable antenna controllers and RF antenna switching units.
  • Install, configure, load, operate and provide fault isolation and restoration of encryption devices used on RF radio systems.
  • Assemble and provide end user / operator system training and operational documentation of all installed equipment in a one on one and group training environment to the equipment / system user as needed.
  • Posses basic Microsoft Office skills and be able to generate / update documents as assigned.
  • Assist with proposal development, if necessary.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
