Awards Collection Archival Intern, Film Archive - Summer 2020 (Academy Gold)

Summary:

The Academy Film Archive is seeking a summer intern to assist and support the Awards Collections department. The Intern will view videotapes and files from various backstage interviews, red carpet arrivals, and Governors Ball titles to verify their content and improve their cataloging. This will involve adding copy histories, summaries, timecode logs, and notes to our catalog. This is a limited internship position beginning in June through August 2020 and reports to the Awards Collection Curator. For students interested in moving image archive studies, you will receive cataloging and collection management training.

Responsibilities:

  • Verify and describe content in the Academy's data management system, AdLib.
  • Use online resources such as our press photos to better identify attendees in our event recordings.
  • View and compare videotapes and files using various standard-definition videotape decks as well as Open Text Media Management.
  • Work with the Curator to address other cataloging issues as discovered.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements
  • Undergraduate (junior or senior) or community college student with coursework in in film studies, film history, moving image archive studies or library science preferred.
  • Live in or attend college in Los Angeles County.
  • Availability to fulfill 400 paid hours over the course of twelve weeks between June and August 2020, not including optional and required educational events.
  • Strong computer skills with database experience.
  • Excellent written communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and efficient with good problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift/move moderately heavy boxes (20 lbs.) and other objects to and from high and low shelves as well as sit at a computer and enter data for long periods of time.

This internship is part of the LA County Arts Internship Program, which provides undergraduate students with meaningful on-the-job training and experience working in nonprofit arts organizations. In addition to interning at the Academy, you will participate in education events and peer group activities coordinated by the Department of Arts and Culture. This internship is also part of the Academy Gold Program, an 8-week internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
