POSITION SUMMARY: BASIC FUNCTION
The Sr. Network Engineer interfaces with multiple stakeholders in the company in order to understand requirements, business constraints, problem domain, viable technology, and development. This includes determining multiple design alternatives, assessing such alternatives based on given or self-defined criteria, and selecting the most suited option to refine to a final design.
This position designs and builds networks, products, and services that contribute toward increased top line revenue and protects the company, customers, employees, and assets. The Sr. Network Engineer streamlines and improves existing network and operational processes to save money, time, and work effort.
The Sr. Network Engineer leads network technology upgrade or expansion projects, including installation of hardware, software and integration testing, as well as coordinating these activities without disturbing function of other systems and mentors team members and addresses user needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure IT architectures, practices, policies, and plans align with company's business goals
Work with other architects to provide a consensus based solution that is scalable, adaptable and in synchronization with ever changing business needs
Manage risks associated with information and IT assets by developing and documenting appropriate standards, practices, and security policies
Promote shared infrastructure and applications to reduce costs and improve information flows
Ensure that projects do not duplicate functionality or diverge from each other and business and IT strategies
Build employee knowledge and skills in specific areas of expertise
Analyze the current system (operating systems, hardware, software, networks)
Map and document the current network environment
Ensure that all architectural products and products with architectural input are maintained in the most current state and never allowed to become obsolete
Generate the highest level of system requirements, based on the user's needs and other constraints such as cost and schedule
Ensure that this set of high level requirements is consistent, complete, correct, and operationally defined
Perform cost-benefit analyses to determine whether requirements are best met by manual, software, or hardware functions; making maximum use of commercial off-the-shelf, open source, or already developed components
Select new technologies while observing the various constraints such as cost, time frame and security
Partition large systems into subsystems and components each of which can be handled by a single engineer or team of engineers or subordinate architect
Inform and advise management on the technological and organizational impacts of the new systems and operational components
Generate a set of acceptance test requirements, together with the designers, test engineers, and the user, which determine that all of the high level requirements have been met, especially for the computer-human-interface
Generate products such as sketches, models, an early user guide, and prototypes to keep the user and the engineers constantly up to date and in agreement on the system to be provided as it is evolving
Draw up development and integration plans
Build test environments, and pilot deployment
Interface with the design and implementation engineers and architects, so that any problems that arise during design or implementation can be resolved in accordance with the fundamental design concepts, and still meet user needs and constraints
Source materials and negotiate with vendors for best pricing on a per project and overall basis
Spearhead implementation and deployment of designs

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED required.
A bachelor's degree in computers or information systems is preferred, however certifications in one or more information systems subject area may be acceptable with reasonable experience and exhibited skill or a reasonable amount of demonstrated industry experience
10-12 years of experience in Information Technology, with 6-7 years in the subject area
Current or demonstrated progress towards attainment of Juniper and/or Cisco CCNP or CCIE or JNCIE (or equivalent)
Experienced in shell scripting such as PERL, Python, Bash
Experienced in network automation technology
Experienced with Packet Analysis and network troubleshooting
Experienced with VOIP/voice and IP carrier circuits
Experienced with Internet Protocols (DNS, SMTP, SNMP, SSH, Telnet)
Experienced with Multi-homed ISP (BGP,ISIS) & IPV6
Experienced with VPLS/MPLS
Experienced with Routing & Switching (OSPF, STP, VTP, HSRP)
Experienced with Firewalls and access lists
Experienced with Load Balancing and global Load Balancing
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Primarily sitting with some walking, standing, bending, and lifting.
Able to hear and speak into a telephone.
Close visual work on a computer terminal, whiteboards, printed documents, and blueprints.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.
Able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
Able to climb a ladder and work on a raised platform.
WORK CONDITIONS
Standard office; Data Center environment with varying temperatures and loud noises; extensive daily usage of workstation or computer; construction sites; confined locations with IT equipment
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Up to 25% travel
Must work on-site; no telecommuting
Must possess a current, valid state issued driver's license
Responsible to carry a cell phone and provide 24 x 7 escalated support as needed
Must be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays and on-call support.
Must be able to respond to emergency situations at the data center
