The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be the world’s premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies. Located at Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles, the Museum will be simultaneously immersive, experimental, educational, and entertaining. More than a museum, this dynamic film center will offer unparalleled experiences and insights into movies and moviemaking.

The Research Assistant conducts research as assigned by the curatorial department with a focus on content creation for digital initiatives, such as the museum app and website. The Research Assistant also performs administrative duties for the curatorial department.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with assigned curatorial team members and Manager of Digital Learning on creating content for the museum app, website, and interactive projects.
  • Conducts research in film and cultural history as assigned.
  • Conducts object and image research and gathers images and captions, researches and contacts rights holders related to digital projects.
  • Assists in checklist administration.
  • Works on administrative duties related to the curatorial department.

 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in film studies, museum studies or related subject is required; M.A. preferred
  • Experience in a research role
  • Substantial knowledge in film history
  • Demonstrated experience working in a museum or other arts environment are a plus
  • Proven skills in using databases
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Photoshop
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment while maintaining a high level of organization and attention to detail
