Position Carpenter-Detroit  

Position Summary:

The Carpenter is responsible for performing various trade work to complete the construction projects. This includes rough carpentry, finish carpentry, standard steel setting, metal finishes, and supervision, depending on the project scope. Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed; bringing problems to the attention of the Project Superintendent, Safety Director, or HR Manager.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Examines specifications in blueprints, sketches or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.
  2. Installs structures and fixtures such as windows and moldings.
  3. Constructs building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes.
  4. Helps erect, level and install building framework with the aid of rigging hardware and cranes.
  5. Installs finished wood work materials for the given job assignment.
  6. Identifies and offers solutions to problems.
  7. Supervises work crews, as directed
  8. Completes daily task work.
  9. Cleans work areas, machines, or equipment, to maintain a clean and safe job site.
  10. Follows established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean environment.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent
  2. Valid driver's license required.
  3. Three (3) to Five (5) years of construction experience preferred.
  4. Heavy machinery operator cards are highly recommended.
  5. Certifications in welding and power actuated tools are a plus.
  6. Already or willing to become trained in CPR, OSHA 10-Hour certified, and licensed on equipment.

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Ability to perform physically demanding labor.
  2. Ability to function in rough and finished carpentry.
  3. Strong work-ethic and willingness to learn
  4. Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction and repair of houses, buildings or other structures.
  5. Skills in carpentry, welding, commercial and/or industrial construction.
  6. Strong oral communication skills.
  7. Creative problem solving.
  8. Safety conscious.
  9. Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment.
