The Air Force Air Liaison Officer Subject Matter Expert (SME)/Planner/Controller will have extensive knowledge of Theater Air Control System (TACS)/Army Air-Ground System (AAGS), Marine Corps Air Command and Control System (MACCS) and the Navy Tactical Air Control System (NTACS). They will have extensive knowledge and experience working at Corps and Div levels in ASOG, ASOS, ASOC, JAGIC, TACP plans and operations and one of the two ALOs will have specific Special Operations Air Ground System (SOAGS) credentials and experience.

Additional Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited To:

  • Work with multi-echelon training audiences to plan/coordinate for and provide effective air integration and control for all counter-land operations, particularly Air Interdiction (AI) and Close Air Support (CAS).
  • Assist training audience planners/operators on synchronizing AI and CAS in time, space, and purpose with supported maneuver forces, increasing the effectiveness of the joint force, while assisting in the development of air apportionment, allocation and airspace integration decisions during exercise planning and execution.
  • Work with training audience participants to build and modify the integration of direct and indirect fires and coordinate with AOC on the capabilities, limitations, and employment of FW/RW CAS, AI and Strike assets.
  • Coordinate and assist with generating the air component sections of the operation order (OPORD) and SPINS in regards to integrating joint air operation's AI and CAS missions into commander's CONOPS and help develop the unit airspace plan and the C/JFACC ACP.
  • The ALO/TACP SME will also teach/advise the training audience on how to identify/resolve/integrate conflicts of airspace, clearance of fires, weather, terrain, threats and communication networks when employing CAS and AI assets and instruct Air Component topics, capabilities, roles and issues as related to TACP integration and missions.
  • Be proficient with the AOC TBMCS and exercise planning tools currently being used in the operational environment.
  • Attend conferences to represent Det 1 and Air Component/AOC replication and to coordinate on exercise construct issues with joint MCTP exercise planners.
  • May be positioned forward with the training audience during event execution to liaise with and represent the AOC, ASOC/JAGIC and TACP and to work closely with the Det 1 Chief OC/T (CHOT) and Chief of Air Power (CAP).
  • Receive daily guidance from the acting CAP and CFACC and be able to articulate command intent. This guidance will then be distributed to the MCTP air ground integration team as well as the AOC response cell to facilitate full Air Component integration.
  • Interaction with General Officers on a regular basis will be required.
  • Work with Army and Air Force exercise planners for doctrinally correct, realistic and accurate replication, presentation and integration of airpower effects contributing to the scenario.
    • Items to review will be typical air component products for major (multi-echelon) MCTP WFXs. Contribute airpower-related oversight, processes and inputs to the support and accomplish training objectives for the training audience.
  • Review Operation Order Annexes as required by MCTP and provide changes and inputs if necessary.
  • Contribute to storylines and events when required to fully exercise training objectives to be evaluated.
  • Other planning tasks include attending Initial, Mid, and Final Exercise Planning (IEP, MEP, FEP) conferences, when needed, and other key meetings to advise and coordinate scenario development and operational/tactical airspace integration issues with MCTP and 505 CTS exercise planners.
  • Will advise, communicate and coordinate with AOC and 505 CTS to update air component products, as needed to integrate airspace effects and doctrinally correct procedures.
  • Articulate all aspects of airpower support and effects through products and processes available to GOs, HQEs, HICOM and senior leadership.
  • Provide inputs and answers related to airpower capabilities and limitation in both the supporting and supported role.
  • Provide airpower inputs to senior leaders in HICOM and JFC staffs to enhance capabilities of aligned joint and coalition airpower integration requirements.
  • Interface and inform air component-related Joint Boards, including the Joint Targeting Coordination Board (JTCB) when airpower capabilities, constraints and effects could be beneficial or detrimental to operations.
  • Assist with proposal development, if necessary.
