The Laser Weld Process Area Lead will be responsible for managing the laser weld, marking, leak testing and abrasion media control. This includes assuring that all work is performed in accordance within the company quality system, safety policies and customer/design requirements.

This position will focus on the quality and efficiency of all processes in the area, daily assignments/priorities, documentation completion and necessary maintenance and adjustments to support equipment.


  • Plans ahead for tools, fixtures, equipment and materials required to support pending work orders or programs.
  • Trains welders on techniques and setups. Collaborates with more experienced welders and manufacturing engineers on the best approach for a job.
  • Reviews instructions with the assigned personnel to ensure they understand and are familiar with all requirements.
  • Understands how to properly apply welding schedules and results for acceptability.
  • Oversees, coordinates and documents qualifications of procedures and personnel.
  • Assures the completion and accuracy of all documentation for welding and related operations.
  • Ensures welding, marking and testing meet the standards of ASME/AWS, NADCAP Military Standards, or contract where warranted or flowed down.
  • Reviews practices and develops improvements to reduce manufacturing lead times and costs.
  • Understands and adds to the creation of existing and new welding procedures.
  • Schedules Weld production to ensure on time delivery and identify resource gaps or time constraints.
  • Provides guidance on material preparation for specific or non-compatible alloys.
  • Ensures that all weld procedures (WPS), welder's qualification records (WPQ) and process qualification records (PQR) are maintained and updated.
  • Communicates with engineers and managers to follow project priorities.
  • Enforces Company Policy and Procedures.
  • Documents effective annual employee appraisals.
  • Helps support department metrics and establish KPI (Key Process Indicators).
Position Requirements


  • 2-year technical degree/certification in the field of welding.
  • Minimum, 5 years of experience in managing technical personnel and complex activities in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2 years in actual welding.
  • Good working knowledge of ASME, AWS, NADCAP, and best industry practice for terminology, symbols, and pulse and power schedules.
  • AWS Certified a plus.


  • This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR.   • Ability to use Microsoft Office, Outlook and Excel as needed.
