This role provides leadership to develop and manage an effective machine shop team, driving improvements to our processes, working with the management team and shop employees on problems related to on time delivery, equipment, tooling, staffing, attendance, and quality.


  • Oversees and directs the production of machined parts including but not limited to the programming, set-up, and operation of computer numerical control (CNC) machines, programs mills, and lathes, maintaining quality and safety
  • Plans and establishes work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals
  • Works collaboratively with Maintenance, Quality, Engineering and Planning to ensure department and company objectives are achieved
  • Sets up, programs, and troubleshoots CNC lathes and mills that have Hass controls. Reduces set up time and production time through process improvements
  • Leads and oversees tool management projects
  • Selects the best-qualified candidates for Machine Shop in coordination with Talent Acquisition and Management Team to meet objectives for production volume and implementation of improvement program
  • Effectively mentors’ employees at all levels
  • Institutes process and procedural improvements
  • Requests and documents training runs training gap analysis. Cross trains employees within their work centers and to specific processes outside of their work centers
  • Provides daily communication throughout all levels of organization to successfully achieve production goals
  • Coordinates team activities to help cross functional teams be more successful
  • Leads continuous process and systems improvements for future production efforts
  • Develops a culture that promotes employee involvement and job satisfaction

  • Reviews department KPI’s on the regular basis (weekly, monthly, and quarterly) and communicate results throughout the organization; Sets up goals and helps in developing plans to achieve those goals
  • Ensures employees are trained and performs work safely; Conducts inspections, accident investigations and participates in safety goals
  • Orders materials and organizes the shop flow; recommends system improvements.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and operates on diverse project teams with minimal direction
  • Assures that General Safety is an absolute priority by ensuring that all Standard Operating Procedures are being followed appropriately and train new employees on all safety and quality requirements
  • Drives solutions to complex planning issues with limited supervision
  • Completes written performance evaluations annually; Communicates performance expectations and employee results regularly, addressing issues that need to be corrected as well as recognizing good performance
  • Creates and maintains monthly Metrics
Position Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or 7 to 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess a technical degree or equivalency
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering a plus
  • Minimum 10 yrs. experience in the CNC machining industry coupled with 5 years in a leadership role
  • Background in ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems a minimum, AS9100 preferred
  • Ability to develop and implement systems and procedures as they relate to process development, process flow, quality assurance and work order documentation
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills to manage and grow the department.
  • Proficient in machining technologies and fabrication processes
  • Able to understand complex mechanical drawings and tolerances
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a high number of set-ups and short run jobs
  • Develop set-up sheets and CNC program retention process for all jobs
  • Ability to institute process and procedural improvements in a machine shop environment is critical
  • Must be a local candidate
