Job Summary:

Provide compassionate and excellent patient care by performing courteous, efficient, and accurate service on-site. A Medic provides professional patient care through skillful assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with facility or department policies procedures, and/or protocols under the supervision of our physicians and advanced-practice providers. Assists in maintaining a safe work environment and safely performs all related job responsibilities; along with maintaining clinical and professional competency as appropriate to the population of patients served.

Job Responsibilities:

Clinical -

  • Assess patient needs within an urgent care setting which includes risk assessment, patient's level of comprehension, etc.
  • Triage patients to differentiate between immediate and less urgent care
  • Take patient histories and vital signs
  • Set-up intravenous (IV) drip
  • Prepare patient for examination and treatment
  • Communicate patient needs and patient status to the physician and/or physician's assistant
  • Perform clinical care to patients under the supervision of a physician which includes the operation of the defibrillator and cardiac monitor, initiation of CPR, etc.
  • Apply splints and dressings, prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments including sterilization
  • Perform audiograms, blood pressure screening, breath alcohol testing, NIDA, and non-NIDA drug screens, injections (TB, tetanus, influenza, Hep B, etc.), venipuncture, etc.
  • Delegate work appropriately to other caregivers and ensures accuracy of delegated work
  • Instruct and educate patients about discharge instructions if applicable
  • Handle telephone calls about outside services from company accounts, patients, physicians, as well as other staff
  • Be a role model of professional behavior and interactions with patients, companies, and co-workers
  • Provide solutions to patient and client concerns

Clerical -

  • Provide accurate and timely documentation to clinical staff, insurance carriers, and companies
  • Correspondence by phone, in person, or in writing with regard to patient and client care, i.e., insurance carriers, physicians, non-clinic physicians
  • Maintain patient records for clinical use; medical records use billing use, physicians' review, etc.
  • Schedule appointments by phone and in person for outside services, and maintain appointment records
  • Complete narcotic counts as required
  • Complete opening and closing procedures
  • Monitor inventory management for supplies, medications, and injectables for on-site services
  • Be sure the work area appears neat, well stocked, and organized

Other Duties -

  • Serve as a resource person for other clinical staff
  • Maintain disposable and non-disposable supplies, i.e. wound care supplies, laundry, etc.
  • Help produce and maintain patient education instruction hand-outs
  • Accept and assume responsibility for special projects as they arise
  • All other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications:

  • Completed Associates Degree in Paramedic training
  • Successful completion of clinical affiliations
  • Knowledge of basic and advanced medical terminology
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider status according to American Heart Association
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively and courteously deal with telephone calls, patients and families, clients, co-workers, clinical staff and physicians
  • Knowledge of computer function and basic office equipment
  • Organizational and analytical skills necessary to maintain efficient workflow
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail in all facets of the position
  • Ability to adjust responsibilities to accommodate a fast-paced work environment while maintaining excellent customer service and staff interactions
  • Ability to use the necessary equipment such as the nebulizer, EKG machine, etc.
  • Skill in identifying problems, researching, and recommending solutions
  • Responsible for personal actions, positive action upon feedback from others
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience is a plus
  • ECW experience is a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be able to lift and support weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
  • Must speak English in good, understandable terms.
  • Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, and touch.
  • Finger dexterity.
  • Critical thinking and ability to concentrate.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
