POSITION SUMMARY: Moravian College's Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin in August 2020. This position entails a 3-3 teaching load throughout the academic year. Preference will be given to those who can offer courses on criminal behavior and criminal procedure and can contribute to the department's core courses (including Introductory Sociology and/or Anthropology) as well as courses in the college’s general education curriculum. The ideal candidate should also have research interests in intersections between race, ethnicity, justice, violence, and crime. In addition to maintaining an ongoing research agenda, non-teaching responsibilities will include assessment, student advising, and serving on college committees.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have a Ph.D. in sociology or anthropology with a specific focus in criminal justice, criminology, or a related field. Those with JD degrees, alone, do not meet this requirement. However, Ph.D. candidates of ABD status and who have definite plans for a dissertation defense before the start date will receive consideration. Qualified applicants must also be able to demonstrate a track record of incorporating considerations of diversity, equity and inclusion in their pedagogy.

  • Occasionally required to push and/or pull up to 25 pounds a distance of 10 feet

  • Routinely required to stand for long periods of time

  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)

  • Depth perception and the ability to judge distances and spatial relationships

  • Adjustable focus

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
