Software Quality Assurance Engineer  

Description

Connected Technology Team is building Proterra’s next-gen Telemetry & IOT (Vehicle and Charger data) platform which will enable our customers to optimize asset utilization, access valuable data & analytics via mobile and SaaS solutions, enable Engineering to monitor and analyze in-service data for continued product improvement, and enable Service with predictive and real-time data to support proactive Customer Support.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with the software development team to test and improve quality of our deliverables. You will provide a pulse on code quality, guide test activities, perform test automation and provide sign-off from QA on code releases. This position will also allow you to innovate our engineering and quality practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Have ownership of the quality assurance strategy, process, test methodology, and metrics
  • Actively participate in sprints providing feedback for quality improvement at each step and ensure team is meeting acceptance criteria
  • Develop and maintain a pyramid of tests that go from large end-to-end ones to unit tests
  • Develop and maintain contract tests to work well with external systems
  • Develop and maintain smoke tests that ensure deployment is correct on various environments
  • Support acceptance tests that business partners provide
  • Guide tests that can be run in production (Ex: canary releases and blue/green deployments)
  • Create and maintain the automation test framework and test suite for our web-based software applications, mobile applications, APIs and communications paths at the component level as well as at the system level
  • Execute tests on software releases and identify deficiencies
  • Work with customers to identify steps to reproduce and update test suite when issues are reported in production
  • Identify and report on key KPIs for product quality
  • Capture information both in test case writing and in test case execution as needed to present clear results to developers and other key stakeholders
  • Assign initial defect severity levels in advance of defect triage meetings

Qualifications:

Thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle and test automation tools, which minimizes quality issues found in production and facilitates rapid deployment of higher-quality products. The candidate should demonstrate an inherent interest in understanding how a piece of code or the whole system works, and a strong desire to find ways to break it. Keen attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and a solid knowledge base are essential.

  • Expert in the use of Selenium, TestNG and related third party tools
  • Strong knowledge of automated testing and API testing experience
  • Familiarity with Java and JavaScript programming languages
  • Web debugging skills using Chrome and IE developer consoles or Firebug extension for Firefox
  • Knowledge of data query languages (SQL, XPath) and basic SQL Server database management skills
  • Expertise with comprehensive testing across the test pyramid
  • Able to develop sunny path and negative path test cases.
  • Knowledge of Scrum/Kanban Agile workflow methodologies
  • Experience with resiliency, security and performance testing
  • Demonstrated curiosity toward finding vulnerabilities to be exploited in the system
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field
  • 5+ years of experience as a Software Quality Assurance Engineer or equivalent software-engineering role
  • 5+ years of experience with a variety of different testing techniques such as UI Testing, Automated Testing, Test Driven Development Strategies and other
  • Able to empathize, sell ideas, and influence others
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
