REPORTS TO: Head of School

POSITION SUMMARY: The Math Lab Teacher will be knowledgeable of the 3 Tier RTI process, to work collaboratively with administrators, school psychologists, curriculum leaders, behavior specialists, special education teachers, classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, and staff to design, implement and monitor interventions designed to help students achieve academic success in the area of mathematic

Job Function and Responsibilities:

  • Establish clear objectives for all Tier 3 intervention lessons and communicate these objectives to the students

  • Assess the numeracy skills of students in a variety of ways on a regular basis and provides progress reports to all stakeholders

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records of progress

  • Provide current and innovative researched-based instructional practices

  • Facilitate the learning process (identify the deficit, develop and implement a plan for intervention, monitor the progress, evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention, and make data-driven decisions for next steps)

  • Provide support during the implementation of interventions (i.e., modeling or coaching staff though the implementation process)

  • Ensure fidelity of the intervention plan including the amount of exposure the students have to quality intervention, the student responsiveness to the intervention, and the quality of the delivery of the intervention

  • Communicate expectations and progress with parents, staff and students

  • Exhibit the characteristics of a positive collaborator with other professionals involved with the success of students in Tier 3 intervention

  • Assist students in becoming a reflective learner with the ability to find and assess their errors and weaknesses

  • Remain abreast of best researched-based practice that results in increased student performance and achievement in a Tier 3 setting

  • Demonstrate a 'whatever it takes' attitude for student success

  • Use data to help teachers identify students who need additional support in the area of numeracy

  • Support teachers in documenting student progress

  • Design a systematic progress monitoring plan for each student

  • Design collaborative systems to support the sharing of RtI best practices

  • Design systems and tools to measure the effectiveness of Tier 3 support

  • Refine Tier 3 strategies and support as needed to improve effectiveness

  • Use instructional and behavioral support tools (student support team, functional behavior assessment and behavior management plans) effectively

  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward academic achievement and curriculum goals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college/university.

  • Alabama teaching certificate

  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
