Schedule Monday-Friday, 40 hrs./wk. during the hours of 6:00 am-12:00 am. Hours may vary based on departmental needs, and may include: nights, weekends, and holidays.  
Pay Rate $54,000-$58,000/yr.  
Description

SUMMARY
Supervises and coordinates personnel in the operation of the North Garage Repair Facility. Responsible for procurement of parts and maintaining a parts inventory. Responsible for the overall cleanliness and environmental management of the repair facility.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises Mechanics in the diagnosis and repair of City vehicles and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.
• Schedules and assigns work and personnel each day in the operation of the North Garage.
• Directs diagnosis of reported mechanical problems.
• Assesses repair needs and estimated time needed for repair (including evaluating problems to determine whether or not professional assistance or further instruction is needed in order to compete repair).
• Directs all work procedures, evaluates work progress and job performance.
• Inspects employee's work, equipment, materials and vehicles.
• Records and evaluates preventative maintenance activities and programs.
• Maintain records of all expenses, materials needed, vehicle use, repairs, and all work in progress.
• Schedule, oversee, and inspect work done by outside vendors.
• Oversees the preparation and processing of mechanical repair orders, purchase orders and requisitions.
• Run complete AS400 program of vehicle maintenance and parts inventory.
• Purchase tools, materials and parts as necessary for equipment repair and stock inventory.
• Responsible for maintaining the accuracy of parts inventory through regular cycle counting, and other inventory techniques.
• Provides daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly reports as required.
• Must be able to deal with employees, customers and vendors professionally and effectively.
• Maintains a safe and secure environment throughout the building.
• This position assumes total responsibility for the 'physical facility'.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One or two year certification in leadership, supervision or management.
• Minimum of five years of experience in a successful fleet maintenance program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED
• Knowledge of automotive and heavy equipment maintenance and repair procedures.
• Knowledge of repair parts inventory procedures.
• Ability to plan, supervise and coordinate employees in a round the clock garage operation.
• Ability to deal effectively and firmly with subordinates, instruct and motivate others to perform their duties, sometimes requiring long hours.
• Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and AS400. Basic computer skills.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
• Valid Driver’s License required. Class A CDL preferred.

EQUIPMENT
Personal computer including word processing software, calculator, copy and fax machines, telephone, cellular telephone, pager, mobile or portable radio, and automobile.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to lift up to 75 pounds, and must be able to work in an upright standing position for long periods of time. The employee must be able to reach overhead, and have a full range of motion.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee will spend the majority of their time in a facility consistent with automotive and truck repairs. The employee may be required to work in adverse weather conditions, sometimes outside, and may have to work long hours when needed. The employee may be exposed to oil, greases, solvents and other chemicals that may be hazardous.
