Job Summary

The position is responsible for clinical oversight of the nursing staff who provides health care and nursing services to NTACHC as well as project management of PCHM and Diabetes Salud programs. The Director of Nursing and Access is also responsible for the front office and medical records personnel, providing access and accessibility to clinic services.

DON Responsibilities

  1. The Director of Nursing is responsible for ensuring that the practice of nursing within NTACHC is of the highest possible quality. Nursing is defined as the non-laboratory clinical duties performed by all LPNs, CMAs, and MAs. This will be accomplished by collaboration with the CMO to establish appropriate in service training and lectures for the nursing staff as needed.
  2. Keeps site CMO informed of all significant nursing issues including but not limited to any proposed policy or procedural changes, disciplinary actions, problems with providers, etc. Will coordinate orientation of new clinical support employees regarding clinical skills and duties.
  3. Reviews resumes, credentials and participates in interviews of nursing applicants with HR.
  4. In conjunction with CMO will perform periodic assessments to determine deficiencies in nursing performance at all sites and new hires, which includes but is not limited to:
    1. Log keeping (abnormal Pap Smears, sub-specialty referrals, pregnancy/perinatal, STD, temperature, Clinical Measures data entry, DAP pharmacy recall, immunizations, etc.)
    2. Skills: (vital signs, therapeutic injections, and immunizations, adult and pediatric catheterization, sterile field/tray setup, instrument sterilization, Oxygen tank use and maintenance, crash cart use and maintenance, EKG, etc.)
    3. Policies and procedures (universal precautions, consent forms, needle disposal, identification and proper disposal of expired medications, etc.)
    4. Conducts periodic nursing meetings; in conjunction with CMO. Agenda and minutes are to be forwarded to the CMO and Senior Management. (Agenda and minutes are to be typewritten.)
  5. Participates in three-month, six-month and annual evaluations of nursing staff in, with input from Team Provider, Compliance and Quality Officer and/or CMO also.
  6. Responsible for maintaining current credentials for clinical support staff on file with Human Resources.
  7. Provides nursing coverage in emergency shortage situations.
  8. In charge of developing and monitoring the annual Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) reports for compliance of sustaining National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) PCMH recognition
  9. Manage and coordinate aspects for the facility to comply with requirements of NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home recognition.
  10. Manage administrative aspects of the diabetes chronic disease self-management program. The following activities consist of managing staff, purchasing supplies, record keeping, budget maintenance, marketing development, data management and progress reports.

Center Access Manager Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for management and direct supervision of Front Office and Medical Records staff to include schedules, time off requests, evaluations, input for hiring and staffing of department.
  2. Handles personnel issues and ensure employees abide by NTACHC policies and procedures.
  3. Monitor and maintain optimum patient flow, services delivery and continuity in care among Clinic Departments.
  4. Monitor front office staff for accurate and complete patient processing to include demographic and financial information, (i.e. insurance verification form, date of birth, ID number, etc.)
  5. Ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained.
  6. Ensure that patients and coworkers are treated in a courteous professional manner. Provide ongoing customer service training.
  7. Monitor front office staff to ensure that all collection procedures and collection scripts are adhered to maximize collections.
  8. Ensure quality control over patient records and data collection. Monitor release of record procedures and maintain HIPPA regulations throughout the Center.
  9. Ensure policies regarding release of medical records are adhered to, and requests are completed timely.

Project Manager Responsibilities

  1. Participates in Performance Improvement/Risk Management activities by identifying areas needing improvement and taking action to achieve goals.
  2. Establishes and maintains effective communication with co-workers agency-wide.
  3. Participates in orientation and staff development activities.
  4. Participates in staff development activities.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Performance Requirements

  1. Develops and implements nursing service objectives, policies and procedures to maintain quality nursing care.
  2. Determines staffing levels and monitors for adequacy in provision of nursing care.
  3. Oversees administrative functions in Nursing Department.
  4. Recommends and collaborates in in-service education programs to promote staff development.
  5. Monitors the quality and type of care provided on all residential units, and the resident outcomes influenced by restorative care programming.
  6. Show empathy and interest in patients of all socio-economic conditions.
  7. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  8. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  9. Must be able to identify and categorize each patient’s age-specific grouping of needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, or geriatric patients.
  10. Assist in NTACHC policy development and management of organizational policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a Registered Nurse with at least one (1) year experience, BSN preferred.
  • Possesses current License in State of Texas.
  • Maintain current CPR and/or ACLS/BCLS certification
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish/English Preferred
