Position Assistant Store Manager  
Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time  

Boomerangs, a non-profit family of thrift stores in Greater Boston, is seeking a hands-on, Assistant Store Manager to join the team at our boutique, consignment thrift store located in Boston's South End. Previous management experience, knowledge of thrift, and an ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment is required.

Under the supervision of the Boomerangs Store Manager, the Assistant Store Manager helps to motivate and inspire their team to achieve store productivity goals. They assist the Store Manager to analyze weekly and yearly sales and develop strategies to meet and exceed goals. Other responsibilities include maintaining weekly schedule to ensure adequate staffing while staying within budget, ensuring the individual and collective skills of the team are utilized effectively, and both the staff and customer experience is positive, assisting with recruiting and hiring, and effectively managing store operations, ensuring consistency and compliance.

  • Assists the Store Manager in responsibility for the store.
  • Creates a welcoming environment for the customer by greeting and assisting; as well as quickly responding to customer inquiries and needs.
  • Assists Store Manager with providing a strong leadership presence and control in-store, while ensuring that all customers receive great service and quality merchandise.
  • Demonstrates desired behaviors for staff including driving sales, handling difficult and/or complicated sales, cash management, inventory, and follow-up with customers.
  • Processes, prices and distributes merchandise. Identifies potential high-value items, and conducts research to assist in determining the price and sales strategy of valuable items.
  • Assists Store Manager to analyze weekly and year-to-date sales and implements strategies and policies aimed at achieving and exceeding sales goals.
  • Identifies opportunities to increase traffic into the store through events, promotions, and partnerships.
  • Creates and organizes engaging floor and window displays that showcase merchandise, with a focus on unique, antique, and high-value items.
  • Assists in the development of marketing and merchandising strategies.
  • Leverages individual staff strengths, and creates developmental plans to prepare all level positions for future growth within the organization. Provides ongoing training to the team as needed.
  • Assists Store Manager in delivering consistent, in the moment, feedback and coaching.
  • Prioritizes, plans, and adjusts schedules as necessary to maximize sales and stay within budget.
  • Responsible for controlling inventory stock levels and reordering as necessary.
  • Maintains a safe, clean and organized store environment with adequate supplies, and attend to maintenance issues.
  • Enforces all company policies and procedures, including health, safety, security, and loss prevention.

Position Requirements
  • At least 1 year of retail management and supervisory experience required
  • Knowledge of current trends and pricing in antiques and collectibles as well as familiarity with current retailers, both discount and high-end
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor sales and identify strategies to achieve goals
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with confidence to both staff, customers, and donors
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and work effectively within a team
  • Ability to lift 40+ lbs.
  • Holidays and weekends are required. This is a full-time, salaried position. Hours will vary depending on season and staffing, with long hours often required often required August through October.
  • Sensitivity to issues surrounding HIV/AIDS.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
