Product Specialist in Portland, Maine. Candidates should have Chocolate, Cheese, Charcuterie, Meat and Chicken knowledge and expertise and at least 3 years of Category Management or equivalent experience.
Position Reports to: Director of Purchasing
Product Knowledge - ability to evaluate current and future market conditions; negotiate and multitask.
Excellent Communication Skills - Demonstrates appropriate and effective communication in all directions including excellent written, verbal and group communication skills.
Planning and Goal Orientation Skills - Demonstrates ability to plan, set goals, effectively manage time & work calendar.
Passion and Team Orientation - Demonstrates a passion for the categories. Shows the ability to consistently contribute to the overall improvement of the category.
Travel-Travel to customers to assist in menu planning and product placement.
3+ years Category Management or equivalent experience, including supplier management and pricing. Prior experience in foodservice or food manufacturing preferred.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Responsible for Developing and Maintaining all Product specifications
Responsible for evaluating the growing and distribution capabilities of all product suppliers
Responsible for maintaining and growing relationships with customers and suppliers and lead product placement and negotiation efforts.
Responsible for producing weekly product updates that illustrates current and future market conditions.
Responsible for conducting QC audits with all Native Maine product suppliers
Assists sales reps and customers with questions or quality concerns
Responsible for assisting the sales team in growing the category.
4-year college Degree Preferred. Equivalent life experience considered.
Proficient in Excel and Word documents.
