This position is responsible for managing and overseeing the development and implementation of theory-informed and evidence-based engagement tools which foster empathy, build conservation identity, and engage and empower audiences to make conservation a priority in their lives. This position works with internal partners to achieve key mission-specific outcomes through exhibit content and interactivity. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Provide direction to create innovative, relevant, and responsive interpretive content, signs, exhibit elements, and technological interactives.
- Cultivate active partnerships with technology developers, researchers, and other innovative engagement thinkers.
- Foster opportunities for new technology applications at the zoo.
- Collaborate with Audience Research staff to develop and implement comprehensive evaluation plans of interpretive projects, exhibit engagement, and technology interactives.
- Collaborate with internal partners to develop, test, and implement technology solutions appropriate to their broader initiatives (e.g. building the capacity for distance learning solutions).
- Stay informed of new trends and research in behavior change, guest engagement, universal design and inclusion practices, and technology applications.
- Under direction of the department’s senior leaders work with the Development Department to write proposals and grant reports; participate in fund-raising and donor cultivation efforts.
- Serve on the department’s management team and work with other zoo leaders to help ensure smooth, effective operations and programs to meet strategic outcomes.
- Develop and manage program and grant budgets, expenses, and financial records.
- Represent the zoo at internal and external meetings and conferences that serve to strengthen the zoo’s position as a leading conservation education organization locally and nationally.

QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor’s (B.A. or B.S.) degree from an accredited four-year college or university in conservation, biology, science education, community engagement, or related field of study; and ten or more years of experience in exhibit, interpretive and program design and/or developing and leading behavioral change initiatives; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of UX/behavior design, as well as emerging technology trends and solutions.
- Familiarity with creative software applications, coding, and/or audio-visual technology.
- Proficient and experienced with Microsoft Office applications: particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated experience testing and validating technology applications to integrate effectively in informal learning/interpretive environments.
- Ability to consider end user perceptions.
- Proven track record of adaptability and creativity in dynamic work environment.
- Proven ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively.
- Entrepreneurial and revenue focus. Ability to identify and implement creative and dynamic earned and contributed revenue opportunities which connect participants to the zoo’s mission.
- Ability to lead and motivate teams, bring in and support different perspectives, and to work with diverse populations and a variety of stakeholders (staff, executive leaders, donors, board members, contractors, volunteers, and members/visitors, etc.).
- Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks, agendas, and projects in a fast-paced environment with high energy and creative problem-solving skills.
- Ability to oversee programmatic operations and manage supervisory and front-line staff.
