What are we looking for in a Controller?

The Controller oversees the daily operations of the Finance department and is tasked with identifying & implementing best practices to optimize efficiency. This position is responsible for supervising Finance staff, maintaining the general ledger, and reporting financial data to leadership. The Controller works at the direction of the Chief Financial Officer to ensure the day-to-day effectiveness of the department. This position will require strong interpersonal skills, the ability to balance multiple projects at once, and a talent for identifying and providing solutions for areas for improvement.

Controller duties may include:

  • supervising the Revenue Cycle Manager, Grants & Contracts Manager, and Accounting Manager and assisting as needed with corresponding responsibilities to ensure the timely & accurate completion of projects
  • creating an organizational structure & processes within the department that increase efficiency and allow the department to meet its objectives
  • implementing processes for general accounting, budgeting, and filing that follow GAAP to ensure an orderly and controlled accounting system
  • maintaining the general ledger and completing month- & year-end closings
  • serving as liaison for all financial audits, including developing an internal audit system to eliminate errors
  • monitoring debt levels and ensuring all payments are made on a timely basis
  • reporting to management about factors affecting prices and profitability of services, recommended performance benchmarks, and budget variances
  • analyzing financial information with regard to debt levels, budgets, & agency financial position and reporting findings to management
  • preparing financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to ensure compliance with accounting and regulatory requirements
Position Requirements

Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field and three years related finance experience in the healthcare industry, including two years of supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
