This is your opportunity to join Woodland Park Zoo as a Custodian with the Facilities Team! There is one full-time, regular, benefitted position open at this time.

SUMMARY

Performs routine janitorial and custodial work in assigned areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cleans restrooms, facilities, and offices in assigned buildings and building areas.
  • Gathers and disposes of trash and wastes; replenishes restroom supplies; washes walls and windows, dusts furniture, polishes metal work.
  • Collects and recycles paper to reduce disposal costs; monitors volume, checks for contaminants and initiates removal or regrading.
  • Cleans lighting fixtures, windows, windowsills, screens, tops of windows, doorframes, and other high areas.
  • Cleans, waxes and polishes floors. Operates mechanical cleaners, polishers or other specialized floor care equipment.
  • Assists in moving furniture and other objects on occasional basis.
  • Sweeps outside areas and sidewalks, removes trash around buildings, and sets bags for pick-up.
  • Performs basic maintenance on equipment (such as belts).
  • Reports evidence of damage and vandalism.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES

Valid Washington State Driver's License required.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Must have basic computer skills to access email and submit online timesheet.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; talk or hear and taste or smell.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment varies.
