Description

U.S. News & World Report's Consumer Advice team seeks a full-time digital producer to manage the Money, Health and Education pages on usnews.com, assist with launching Best Colleges, Best Jobs, Best Diets, Best Hospitals, Best Places and other U.S. News franchises and produce daily content such as articles and slideshows. Other responsibilities include helping staff troubleshoot a variety of technical issues, selecting and editing photos and creating engaging infographics and videos. The ideal candidate will be a proven problem solver who can juggle myriad responsibilities in a fast-paced journalism environment. You should also be comfortable with content management systems and working closely with a small production team. Please note this is an entry-level position located in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce Money, Health and Education articles
  • Build Money, Health and Education slideshows
  • Select and edit photos
  • Update content on Money, Health and Education pages
  • Monitor section pages for problems, and correct them if they exist
  • Answer questions from team members about technical issues
  • Create infographics to accompany stories or project launches
  • Use video-editing platforms to build informative videos that support our content
  • Pitch in with problems or special requests from team members
  • Prepare content and page components in advance of project launches
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Position Requirements
  • Proficient in HTML/CSS, Photoshop and basic web production tasks
  • Comfortable using content management systems
  • Ease using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Google web apps or equivalent software
  • Familiarity with video-editing tools like Wochit
  • Experience creating informative infographics
  • Detail-oriented and adaptable to new assignments and processes
  • The ability to meet deadlines and handle several tasks simultaneously from internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Exemplary communication, critical thinking and organization skills
  • An eye for selecting engaging, appropriate photos to accompany our content
  • General understanding and knowledge of U.S. News rankings projects
  • Curious and self-motivated to continue learning on the job
  • Must thrive working in a small team setting and with the same team members daily
  • Journalism experience, including editorial judgment and a familiarity with AP style, is a plus
  • Up-to-date knowledge on Internet publishing and metrics, with an acute understanding of SEO, is a plus
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools is a plus
  • An understanding of basic design principles is a plus
  • About 1-2 years of web production or related experience
  • College degree or equivalent
