Pay Rate $10.10/hr.  
Description

SUMMARY
The Diversity and Inclusion Fellow reports to the Diversity and Inclusion Officer. The Diversity and Inclusion Fellow will focus on projects in compliance with City Diversity Purchasing Ordinance, Human Rights Ordinance, and City Diversity and Inclusion Plan, that require significant research, analysis, and engagement, multi-tasking, marketing, and correspondence.

EXPECTED INTERNSHIP OUTCOMES
• An understanding of the importance, necessity, and challenges of increasing the participation of underrepresented populations in municipal government workplace, workforce and community engagement
• Demonstrated administrative and soft skills that are applicable to entry-level employment
• Experience with researching policy, analyzing data, and organizing municipal programs
• An understanding of the importance of multiracial and intersectional coalition-building

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.
• Conduct municipal diversity and inclusion policy research and data analysis for housing, pay equity, transportation, municipal employee engagement, education, public safety and restorative justice, neighborhoods, jobs, economic development and wealth building
• Support city Employee Resource Groups (ERG's) and Executive Champions
• Prepare for North Central Indiana Small Business Conference program, a Minority and Women Business Enterprise (MWBE) conference co-hosted with IDOA annually
• Support partnership with the Latin American Chamber of Commerce Small Business Development Program and Government Procurement Innovators Program
• Support the Diversity Utilization Board quarterly meetings
• Support MWBE, DVBE, VBE, SBE, DBE, LGBTE, HUBzone partnership organizations
• Set up and implement infrastructure in preparation for Partnership for Inclusive Economy Community Engagement Meetings
• Support Human Rights Commission of South Bend's Human Rights Day Luncheon
• Provide other support as needed.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Currently enrolled in an accredited high school, college or university or:
• Successfully completed/graduated from accredited high school, college or university program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED
• Demonstrated attention to detail
• Basic knowledge of marketing and communication
• Demonstrated mature sensitivity to working with people of diverse identities and backgrounds
• Demonstrated experience with community and or organizational coalition building
• Demonstrated skills for timely multi-tasking
• Demonstrated professional writing and communication skills
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
• Basic proficiency in graphic design software a plus
• Demonstrated proficiency in Spanish or other second language spoken in City of South Bend a plus

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
• Valid Driver’s License required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in office settings, with moderate inside temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office. Entire office is smoke free.
