REPORTS TO: Head of School

Position Summary:

The i3 Academy Teacher’s primary responsibility will be to help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible members of society. The Teacher will be responsible for creating lesson plans and engaging students in the work created for them individually or in small groups, tracking student progress in multiple ways and presenting the information to parents in a collegial manner.

Job Function and Responsibilities:

  • Designs engaging and relevant learning experiences for students aligned with learning goals

  • Encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning

  • Engage students in student led parent conferences

  • Emphasizes learning over grading

  • Views assessment as a body of student work with data gleaned from a variety of sources including anecdotal and observational data

  • Designs open-ended problems and guides students through the problem solving process

  • Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to further individual mastery of learning goals

  • Differentiates learning activities as necessary for each learner considering differences in content, process, and product

  • Generates learning activities based on understanding of individual student mastery

  • Nurtures a culture where students view themselves as competent learners and provides support to allow that competence to unfold

  • Creates an environment where students have an opportunity to explore their own interests and develop creative projects while mastering established learning goals

  • Inspire students to impact the world with their learning.

  • Seeks to understand students and crafts driving questions or projects aimed at igniting their passion and action.

  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere

  • Seeks to understand the root cause of student behaviors and addresses them accordingly.

  • Promotes the general progress and well-being of the whole child

  • Encourages learner voice and choice

  • Provides a supportive environment and adheres to all legal requirements for students with special needs

  • Collaborates with all professionals working with special needs students

  • Collaborates regularly with professional staff to enhance learning for all students

  • Engages in high quality personal professional growth as a model of lifelong learning

  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication

  • Uses technology competently and creatively

  • Maintains and submits accurate records and reports

  • Maintains confidentiality of student information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education

  • State of Alabama teaching certificate in the appropriate field of study

  • Teaching experience preferred
