Description

Position Summary

We are investing heavily in new product development initiatives to broaden our market opportunity and drive our future growth. So, if you are passionate about leading the development of highly differentiated products that delight customers and win in the market, our Vice President of Software Engineering role may be for you. Our new engineering leader will inherit - and continue to develop - the solid software development capabilities that already exist at TrueLearn. They will work closely and collaboratively with our product team to modernize our platform and develop our next-generation offerings. As a member of the TrueLearn senior leadership team, they will be adept at communicating the value of our technology investments in terms of their business benefits: they will be as much a business leader as a technical one. Our VP of Software Engineering will have a strong technology and software architecture background and will have a contemporary point of view on how to leverage agile best practices and cloud services to improve productivity, quality, and time to market. And, they will possess a servant leader’s mindset: they will be great at attracting, hiring, and retaining talented people.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the software development function at TrueLearn and act as an engaged member of TrueLearn senior leadership team
  • Identify and implement agile software development principles and processes that engage stakeholders, increase end-to-end productivity, and deliver quality
  • Develop and maintain TrueLearn’s long term technology vision and strategy: be the primary point of accountability for the company’s software architecture
  • Lead, and engage closely with, the process of envisioning, scoping, designing, and developing technical and architectural requirements for new products and features
  • Work closely and collaboratively with product, marketing, sales, customer success, and editorial and be heavily invested in their success
  • Deliver an efficient dev-ops function focused on quality and efficiency; ensure that TrueLearn’s production environments help deliver an unmatched customer experience

This position is based in Mooresville, NC (Charlotte area) and reports directly to our CEO.

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics, or related field
  • 7+ years of hands-on keyboard software development experience at a commercial software vendor (experience at an ed-tech or analytics focused software vendor is strongly desired)
  • 5+ years of engineering leadership experience at a commercial software vendor
  • Experience building data-focused and analytics-driven applications
  • A strong understanding of agile development management best practices, with experience implementing them
  • A strong understanding of modern software architecture that leverages public cloud services
  • A proven ability to work closely and collaboratively with product management to deliver differentiated products that win in the market
  • A willingness to “rope and ride” when required
  • A servant leadership mindset: sees the team’s success as their success
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and exceptional collaboration skills
  • Strong analytical and creative technical problem-solving skills
