Position Overview

This position will be responsible for the basic functions of Material Control of the Greenville SC Proterra manufacturing site and will support to Proterra’s Materials Director and other site leadership team members. This position requires expertise in allocation, budgeting and administration, specialized knowledge of manufacturing controls systems, and a strong acumen in forecasting product line structures and business cycles. Project management and problem solving will be fundamental to this role and the ideal candidate will be an effective communicator and possess the ability to effectively work with a team to achieve success.

About the Role – You will:

Develop and control production schedules and inventory levels based on sales forecast and other commitments.

Direct materials staff to insure objectives, schedules and budgeting are achieved.

Analyze past business cycles, trends and developing specific unit forecasts.

Coordinate marketing projections to anticipate business conditions.

Issue and schedule all orders to purchasing and manufacturing functions in the proper sequence and order size based on requirements, scheduling and inventory goals.

Responsible for on-time delivery performance and identifying and solving problems impeding on-time delivery for all orders.

Manage inventory levels including purchases and raw parts in accordance with plant, group and corporate goals.

Responsible for all material movements and transactions. Ensures necessary training, follow-up and error corrections are completed. Ensures inventory control meets inventory accuracy targets.

Receives, coordinates, inputs and establishes the manufacturing bills of materials per engineering orders as well as plans add/delete dates on engineering changes.

Support the launch of new products, sites and ERP/MRP systems.

Responsible for continuous improvement of materials processes and Plan for Every Part process.

Responsible for warehouse and inventory management and the implementation of world class best practices (ex. VMI, Kanban, Heijunkas, etc.)

This position will be part of the Greenville based Warehouse and Materials team that supports Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations in Greenville, SC.

You will report to the Materials Director and collaborate with other Warehouse and Materials team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facility in Los Angeles, CA.

Your Experience Includes:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance or Engineering
  • 10 years’+ experience with Supply Chain/Materials Management
  • Demonstrated strong experience in supervision and/or managing employees.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment and inter-relationship with other areas is required and including knowledge of the purchasing function.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to effectively work with a team to achieve success.
  • Physical Demands:
    • May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations.
    • Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
    • Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
    • Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions and close or distance visual items.
    • Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.
  • Environmental Demands:
    • Ability to work in manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions.
    • Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment.
    • Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.
