Description

The CNC Programmer is responsible for reviewing and interpreting customer or internal part drawings in order to develop CNC programs and plan the set-up of advanced machining equipment. Responsible for determining the best available methods to fabricate and machine parts or assemblies by developing the most efficient programs and set ups for all CNC equipment.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Promote and adhere to the Core Values and Behavior Code
  • Responsible for the programming of all machines utilizing MasterCam or equivalent software, including the development and prove out of all programs.
  • Observe machine trial runs/conduct computer simulations to ensure that programs and machinery will function properly and produce items that meet specifications.
  • Plan, create, verify and revise program data and documentations to enhance efficiency. Develop and maintain database of all programs.
  • Analyze job orders, drawings, blueprints, specifications, and design data in order to calculate part dimension compatibility with machines, tool selection, machine speeds and feed rates.
  • Develop and guide the integration of new machining techniques that reduce setup and run times.
  • Train and mentor machinists on best practices for operational efficiency.
  • Research, recommend and negotiate pricing for capital equipment purchases.
  • Recommend and prepare layout and installation plans for all CNC equipment.
  • Provide numerical control, machining, programming and technical expertise to the production department.
  • Set up and operation ability of all machine shop equipment and other machines
  • Prepare detailed estimates for assigned projects from small to large and complex in nature.
  • Analyze RFQ instructions, detailed specifications and other customer supplied documentation to prepare time estimates for machined parts.
  • Assess tooling, material costs and labor required for all phases of the project. Consult with supply chain management on vendor and material selection.
  • Support the manufacturing team and assist with the resolution of production machining issues involving processes which affect the overall production operation to maximize efficiency.
  • Verify completed work, check dimensions/tolerances, and maintain accuracy of drawings and programs.
  • Analyze completed projects to compare actual versus estimated cost hours to identify process improvement and cost reduction.
  • Continually strive to foster a team work environment that provides open and honest communication across all levels.
  • Promote inter-department cooperation through active involvement with all staff members and peers on the company's leadership team.

  • Required to wear appropriate PPE as required by job duties.

Position Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • Associate’s degree or Bachelors’ degree in CNC programming, a computer-related field or a mechanical field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years’ experience in CNC machining.
  • 5+ years of MasterCam or similar CAD/CAM experience required.
  • 2D and 3D modeling experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to develop professional working relationships; ability to communicate well with members of the public and staff members.
  • Expert understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Strong knowledge of Algebra, Trigonometry and Geometry.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and apply GD&T.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong problem solving and ability to coordinate, organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to shift priorities based on the organizations’ needs.
  • Able to exercise independent judgment and make sound decisions, take ownership/accountability and operate with minimal supervision.
  • Integrity, professionalism, discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality are essential.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

This full-time position operates in both a professional office and production environment. Use of computer, telephone and other office equipment throughout the day as needed to conduct business. Physical effort consists of frequent handling of light to average weight materials. Work performed requires constant alertness and activity, concentrated mental and visual attention required. Position requires working throughout all company buildings and possible travel on an as needed basis.
