Accounting Supervisor/Manager 

Position Accounting Manager  

Associated Eye Care is a multi-specialty group practice providing surgical services and vision care for all ages. We have five locations spanning the eastern Twin Cities of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Position Summary

The accounting manager is responsible for performing highly specialized accounting work required to maintain AEC Company's general ledgers. Working under the direction of the Director of Finance & Administrative Services, the Accounting manager directs and coordinates the daily activities of the accounting staff to quickly and accurately record and report revenues, expenditures, assets and liabilities of all AEC Companies.

Essential Functions

  • Actively works with the department Director to develop and implement financial processes and systems, trains and facilitates management and employee understanding of finance and payroll procedures
  • Manages accounting operations including Accounts Payable, General Ledger, and Payroll functions
  • Monitors the company's daily cash position, debt levels and debt compliance
  • Works with department managers to research and resolve discrepancies between the bank, practice management software and accounting software
  • Maintains and reconciles all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
  • Oversees Sales and Use Tax Return preparation, timely filing, and maintenance of records
  • Oversees MNCare Tax Return preparation, timely filing, and maintenance of records
  • Oversees the activities of the Accounting Clerk and Staff Accountant, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, petty cash, and employee expense reports, along with maintenance of accounts payable records
  • Oversees entry of accounts receivable daily work summary, daily deposit, and maintenance of revenue records
  • Oversees monthly inter-company journal entries and transfer funds
  • Responsible for 401(k) administration, maintenance of employee 401(k) files and coordinates and facilitates the annual compliance 401(k) audit with outside CPA firm
  • Develops and maintains approved expense allocation methods
  • Manages Unclaimed Property annual filings
  • Schedules and coordinates all financial compliance activities and supervises the preparation of work papers and analysis for external audits (tax, insurance, other governmental audits)
  • Implements all compliance rules and regulations pertaining to all financial and accounting processes and systems
  • Coordinates payroll data entry and manages bi-weekly payroll process
  • Participates in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports
  • Direct supervision of Accounting Clerk and Staff Accountant, including responsibility for job performance, performance evaluations, compensation changes, and delegation of duties to department employees
  • Participates in the development and management of operating budgets for Finance department under the supervision of Director; manager is directly responsible for managing financial performance to approved budget requirements
  • Oversight and management of performance scorecards for Finance department

Other Essential Functions

  • Must be available to work outside of regular working hours on occasion and able to travel to other AEC offices as needed
  • Participates in department and company meetings, as requested
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Specific Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and corporate tax rules
  • Ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines when faced with multiple interruptions and sometimes stressful situations
  • Can confidently establish priorities based on workload, focusing on attention to detail and accuracy
  • Capacity to analyze and problem-solve issues in order to identify areas of process improvement and increase efficiencies
  • Able to work independently and handle and resolve problems on own, but also know when to collaborate with staff and be a team player
  • Ability to assess the importance and relevance of information and effectively and efficiently share information and relevant detail to the appropriate persons
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to develop and foster relationships with employees and clients at all levels of the organization; ability to give consistent and concise direction/communication to team members; ability to lead, motivate, educate, manage and train teams
  • Ability to operate successfully with strategic and tactical level issues and to effectively manage multiple and diverse issues; good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions based on data and business acumen
  • Courteous and professional demeanor while demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment to company vision and mission
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality utilizing HIPAA guidelines and maintain compliance with OSHA rules
  • Advanced computer skills, including Word and Excel and a willingness to learn new software programs; preference to prior experience with Sage products

Position Requirements

Education & Licensing

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
  • CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification preferred


  • Minimum experience of 3 years in a leadership role required
