Lead Embedded Firmware Engineer

As a firmware engineer on the Power Systems Engineering team, you will design and implement the embedded code that enables fleet-scale implementation of heavy duty electric vehicles. This role will also involve modeling and testing models that mimic behavior of both the charger and the grid.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver highquality C code in a real-time embedded environment.
  • Specify, design, and implement functionality and behaviors of embedded subsystems.
  • Design the software architecture and firmware implementation on hardware through integration, test, and high volume manufacturing.
  • Handson hardware bring up, system debugging, and code optimization.
  • Make performance and optimization tradeoffs to meet product requirements.
  • Create and maintain realtime modeling tools, including HIL and SIL environments for grid-impact modeling and FW validation.
  • Willingness to trace bugs to their source, wherever in the system that may end up being
  • Be able to perform evaluations of alternative components, providing hard data in the form of plots and tables to allow for quantitative decisions leading to product improvements

Requirements

  • Modeling and control expertise for power converters
  • Proficiency in C / C++ programming for embedded Linux or microcontrollers
  • Experience in embedded development of system software and realtime controls
  • Proficiency with software fundamentals including software design and maintainability
  • Controls software development
  • Experience with embedded microprocessor tools
  • Experience with a variety of FPGA, DSPs and microcontrollers
  • Experience implementing safety critical, high reliability, or fault tolerant software
  • Testdriven development and familiarity with developer-driven automated testing.
  • Understanding of physics and basic principles is highly preferred.
  • Experience using measurement equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers to debug code
  • Experience with low level interfaces such as I2C, SPI, CAN, RS232
  • BS / MS in Electrical Engineering or similar degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of theory and principle of switching power converter topologies such as DCDC, ACDC, DAB, etc
  • Experience in developing digital control algorithms for 3phase PFC switching power converters, Bidirectional Power Flow and Parallel Converter Control strategies

Bonus Requirements

  • UL 1998 experience
  • Experience implementing safety critical, high reliability, or fault tolerant software
  • Power electronics control experience
