JOB SUMMARY

This NPI Subcontract Manager position is responsible for working in a team environment to manage new program procurement activity for a range of development programs under tight development schedules to meet program objectives. Support proposal activity by obtaining estimates for key cost drivers; support selection of target material cost. Coordinate with SCM Management to develop each new Development program supply chain plan. Determine material requirements from engineering development planning and coordinate the availability of materials. Identify and communicate material costs on new design activity from proposal through unit qualification. Select new program suppliers who meet Astronics requirements for quality, delivery, technology and cost. Coordinate work performed by contract manufacturers to support program schedule objectives. Provide material risk feedback to design and coordinate DFMA activity with program team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinate new program activity- work closely with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain team and Quality to meet program objectives.
  • Support component selection and AVL by identifying risky component, process and supplier selections and suggesting alternate selections. Assure DFM and CMP feedback from Suppliers before final designs and drawings are released.
  • Issue RFQ's to suppliers during the bid phase to establish program Design to Cost for materials and end item assemblies, track and communicate program material DTC costs from Preliminary Design Review through Production Readiness Review development phase gates.
  • Identify and develop new sources when needed to support the Supply Chain strategic plan, Astronics business strategy and meet product requirements for technology, quality, performance and value.
  • Investigate alternate component technologies and suppliers with a focus on reducing cost and improving quality.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers to identify process capabilities, material and administrative cost drivers, leading continuous improvement/cost reduction programs from planning through execution.
  • This role will serves as the primary contact with suppliers with responsibility to develop a highly effective and functional partnership with key suppliers, integrating functional individual contributors as well as mid and top level management.
  • Conducts proposal preparation and management. Issues RFQ's to suppliers during the bid phase to establish and maintain the best market pricing possible. Identifies areas for cost reduction and leads efforts to improve value wherever possible. Analyzes results of RFQ and makes recommendations.
  • Leads all negotiations with assigned suppliers and may participate in other negotiations.
  • Responsible for the strategic and tactical management of contracts. Responsibilities for a program may include a single supplier or may cross over to multiple suppliers.
  • Assignments are often self-directed with collaboration but little supervision. Develops solutions to complex problems which require strong market knowledge as well as a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovativeness. Challenges are frequently unique and solutions may serve as precedent for future decisions. Manages significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles.
  • Initiate and participate in continuous improvement projects and project teams, as required, most often taking a leadership role. Provides mentoring to other team members. Takes on other projects as assigned.
  • Coordinate with the program Contract Manufacturers to resolve issues that occur during development process. Expediently resolve any identified program material quality problems that occur. Monitor and report on supplier performance to suppliers and the Program Team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

Bachelor Degree in related field

Demonstrates proficiency (typically 8+ years of direct experience in the essential functions of the position)

Negotiations experience with contract manufacturers and commodity suppliers preferred.

Working knowledge of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems. C.P.M. or CPSM certification preferred.
