This is your opportunity to join Woodland Park Zoo as a Prospect Strategy Analyst with the Development Team! This position is a full-time, regular, benefitted position.

This position manages the relationship management functions within development that grow, evaluate, and prioritize our pool of current and potential donors. This position will use data to inform portfolio composition and flow to improve fundraiser effectiveness. This position will coordinate all facets of the prospect management process and provide vital work to ensure the success of the zoo’s campaign by working closely with development colleagues on prospect strategy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the donor relationship management portion of the donor database.
    • Enter/maintain data as appropriate.
    • Coordinate, design and implementation as needed.
    • Oversee the contact reporting and portfolio assignment process.
    • Develop and run audits to systematically ensure the integrity of the prospect information and major gift fundraising activity recorded in the database.
  • Develop, interpret, implement, and enforce appropriate policies and procedures for relationship management and research with all development and advancement staff.
  • Integrate research and relationship management processes to maximize fundraiser support and fundraising effectiveness.
  • Devise and perform data analysis projects with an eye to uncovering and highlighting new engagement opportunities and challenges with the prospect pool that need creative thinking.
  • Advise leadership on fundraiser performance and on the interpretation of metrics and their impact; prepare, coordinate, and design prospect strategy tools and reports.
  • Orient fundraisers to research and relationship management policies and system procedures. Train fundraisers on:
    • How to understand and use research capacity ratings for prospect prioritization and strategy.
    • Entering contact reports.
    • Following procedures and processes around portfolio management.
  • Oversee the development and prioritization of fundraiser portfolios, including the oversight and authority to assign new prospects to fundraisers.
  • Serve as primary liaison to fundraisers to assess and meet their needs for discovery prospects, portfolio balance and time management. Meet regularly to interpret relationship management data compared to baselines and review upcoming cultivation/solicitation plans.
  • Partner with development leadership and fundraisers in donor strategy development and running effective prospect meetings.
  • Review and recommend new technologies, vendor services, and information sources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s (B.A. or B.S.) degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field; and three (3) or more years’ prospect research, development, advancement, and/or other relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Highly developed understanding of philanthropy and fundraising practices.
  • Ability to assess the relative value of a variety of information and sources, to synthesize and interpret relevant prospect data into coherent, well written documents.
  • Strong computing and reporting analysis skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, experience using a relational database, and familiarity using Tableau or a similar visualization software.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team and adapt to changes in the work environment as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Experience with creating policies, procedures, and training materials.
  • Commitment to professional ethics and ability to adhere strictly to confidentiality requirements.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience in complex fundraising organizations.
  • Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge.
  • Experience with visualization and statistical software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • This position may be required to lift up to 30lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a typical office environment and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
