Our Early Intervention program in Salem, VA has an exciting opportunity for an Early Intervention Developmental Educator to join their team. PART-TIME (10-15hrs a week) Flexible / create your own schedule between (M-F 8am -6pm). WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

Fun and rewarding position providing direct education services to children birth to age 3 who are experiencing developmental delays. Work closely with families and caregivers in home and community settings to help children meet developmental milestones.

The Early Intervention program provides supports and services to children from birth to age three who are experiencing delays in development, showing atypical development, or who have a diagnosed condition that makes them more likely to experience delays. In addition to providing direct education services, Developmental Educators participate in the ongoing assessment of needs and skills in all areas of development and serve as a resource for parents and childcare providers. This position reports to the Early Childhood Program Supervisor and does not supervise other staff members.

Provide services to clients

  • Provide direct education services to children and families in-home and/or community settings based on outcomes identified in the Individualized Family Service Plan
  • Provide families with developmental information and activities
  • Assess developmental age levels with approved evaluation instruments and checklists
  • Perform individual needs assessments and assist with the development of child and family outcomes
  • Provide supervision to interns as needed

Documentation of Services

  • Document services, parental involvement in sessions and progress toward outcomes in accordance with Medicaid and State Part C regulations
  • Submit appropriate documentation for service visits, assessments, meetings, and other communications within designated timelines
  • Maintain accurate and organized client files

Collaborate with service coordinators, families, school personnel and other service providers

  • Participate in IFSP meetings and ensure that all pertinent information is conferred to team members in order to develop the most appropriate supports and services for each child
  • Collaborate with community agencies to provide disability and early childhood development training as needed
  • Attend monthly departmental staff meetings as well as individual meetings with the Program Manager.
  • Attend professional training and workshops as necessary to keep up with professional certification.

Environment:

This is a periodic position with the current potential to work up to 10-15 hours per week. Hours are flexible but may vary depending on client scheduling needs. The majority of work takes place in the client’s home or other natural settings in the community, therefore some amount of risk is associated with this lack of environmental control. The work pace is moderate to fast and there is a potential for stress due to the interaction with individuals and families who may be struggling or in crisis.

Position Requirements

YOU’RE A GREAT MATCH FOR OUR TEAM IF YOU HAVE:

  • Licensure with endorsement in one of the following by the VA Board of Education: Special Education (birth to 5); Early/Primary Education (PreK-3) or (NK-4) or Elementary Education (PreK-6); Adapted Curriculum (K-12) or General Curriculum (K-12); Career and Technical Education- Family and Consumer Sciences; or Certification as a Music Therapist- Board Certified (MT-BC)
  • Knowledge of child development and recommended practices in service provision for children with or at risk for developmental or behavioral/emotional disabilities.
  • Experience working with children birth to age 5 in their natural environments is preferred.
  • Ability to provide direct services to children and to maintain effective collaborative relationships with parents, service coordinators, LEA representatives, and other professionals.
  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills including clarity and articulation of thought, appropriate grammar, style, form, and punctuation.
  • Valid and unrestricted state appropriate driver’s license.
