Health Education Specialist (Career Ladder)-7475

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, promotes healthy lifestyles by providing fitness, exercise, and nutrition education and programs to the members of the Tohono O'odham Nation. Promotes good health by planning and coordinating activities on nutrition education and awareness, provides counseling and follow-up on eligible clients.

The work is normally reviewed upon completion, with occasional spot checks while in process, to ensure accuracy, timeliness and conformance to established standards; major work tasks are covered by instructions or procedures and unusual situations are referred to a supervisor.

 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: (Career Ladder Full Level, I, and II)

  • FULL LEVEL-Associate’s Degree in Health Education or closely related field, and three (3) years work experience in a health related field, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
  • CAREER LADDER II-Associates Degree in Health Education and two (2) years of work experience in a health related field, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
  • CAREER LADDER I-Associates Degree in Health Education and one (1) year of work experience in a health related field, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.

Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:

  • Must obtain certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid within the first six months of hire.
  • Must obtain a Basic Trainer, Physical Fitness and Nutrition Certification within one year of hire.
  • Food Handler’s Card must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Must be a certified HIPAA or obtain a HIPAA Certification within one year of hire.
  • Upon recommendation for hire a criminal background and National FBI check is required to determine suitability for hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
  • Must submit a 39-month driving record with the employment application.
  • Must meet the Tohono O’odham Nation tribal employer’s insurance requirements to receive a driver’s permit to operate program vehicles.
  • Based on the department’s needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O’odham Language and English as a condition of employment.

The Nation is the second largest reservations in Arizona in both population and geographical size, with a land base of 2.8 million acres and 4,460 square miles, approximately the size of the State of Connecticut. Its four non-contiguous segments total more than 2.8 million acres at an elevation of 2,674 feet.
