All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law.   Description WORK OBJECTIVE This position performs routine and specialized housekeeping and cleaning of city-owned facilities including but not limited to: offices, conference rooms, kitchens, restrooms, common areas, entryways, and other areas and facilities as assigned. The position may also be assigned other custodial tasks as needed. This position reports to the Facilities Supervisor. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Cleans and picks up debris in various buildings, restrooms, and other areas in city-owned facilities. Assists with preparations of facilities for daily use, special events, recreation programming or other uses as necessary. Follows plans and guidelines regarding the care and maintenance of various floors, walls, furniture and other items within the facilities. Operates vacuum cleaners, floor care machines, pressure washers and other facility care equipment. Sanitizes restrooms using appropriate chemicals. Follows instructions regarding materials, equipment, and training to assure a safe working environment for self and other members of immediate work unit. Prepares daily, monthly and annual reports as required by immediate supervisor. Monitors janitorial supplies and products and reports needed products to supervisor. Reports any needed repairs or abnormal situations to supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED. Minimum of two (2) years' experience performing custodial/housekeeping tasks. Knowledge of cleaning techniques, tools and equipment, as well as appropriate cleaning processes and use of cleaning agents and chemicals. Must be available to work night, weekend and holiday shifts and may be required to work alone. Exceptions to the minimum qualifications must be reviewed by the Human Resources Director and approved by the City Manager prior to job offer. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to read and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to follow instructions regarding cleaning materials and products to ensure a safe working environment for self and others within the work environment. WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing ladders, reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing and making continuous hand/arm movements. May also require lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling of objects and materials weighing 10-30 pounds. Work is almost entirely indoors and involves exposure to fumes from cleaning products and chemicals. Requires the ability to perform intensive and routine manual work.
