About the Organization Hill Country Mental Health and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Centers is a unit of local government and a not-for-profit, 501C provider of Mental Health and Intellectual Developmental Disabilities, Substance Abuse, and Veteran Peer Services throughout the greater Texas Hill Country Region. Hill Country MHDD Centers is designated to be the Mental Health Authority by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Intellectual and Developmental Disability Authority by the Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) for a 19 County Service Area including: Bandera, Blanco, Comal, Edwards, Gillespie, Hays, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Kinney, Llano, Mason, Medina, Menard, Real, Schleicher, Sutton, Uvalde and Val Verde Counties. With a Mission of Promoting Independence, Community Integration and Recovery, HCMHDD Centers operates (10) ten Mental Health Clinics, (8) Developmental Disability Centers and serving a population of over 630,349 consumers within 22,593 square miles.

Job Title: Registered Nurse

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The RN on the Crisis Stabilization unit performs professional nursing services for the population served. Essential tasks include:

  • Completes admission and ongoing assessment of individual psychiatric and nursing care needs per facility policy and procedure.
  • Participates in treatment team meetings routinely and assists with the development of the multidisciplinary plan of care. Implements and documents the provision of nursing interventions described in the care plan.
  • Provides patient and family education to individuals and families on medications; symptom management; health, safety, and infection control; facility rules; recovery principles; and addresses other consumer/family needs for education as identified.
  • Administers medications or supervises the administration of medication as ordered by the attending physician and in accordance with nursing care standards and facility policy/procedure.
  • Provides clinical supervision and guidance for the LVN and direct care staff in order to ensure a safe and therapeutic treatment milieu. May provide training to the LVN and direct care staff regarding essential nursing care interventions, facility policy and procedure, and milieu management guidelines.
  • Observes, oversees, and monitors the use use/implementation of Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior (PMAB) interventions. Ensures that PMAB methods are implemented appropriately and safely per facility policy and procedure and that all PMAB interventions are documented per policy.
  • Participates and supports the facility safety, risk management, and infection control programs and follows facility procedures to maintain a safe treatment environment.
  • Uses a computer to communicate information, complete reports, and to record nursing assessment, care, and treatment services as required.

Other Duties:

  • Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule as assigned and adheres to facility guidelines related to time, attendance, and notice of absence.
  • Communicates clearly and works effectively/harmoniously as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism in all actions.
  • Exercise good judgment in performing duties.
  • Take necessary actions to preserve the health, safety, and general well being of the consumers served, co-workers and the public.
  • Provide prompt, courteous and friendly services, which are responsive to the desires and preferences of consumers and within the boundaries of generally acceptable professional practice and judgment.
  • Interact with the public in a manner, which promotes good public relations for Hill Country MHDD and public respect and acceptance of individuals with mental health issues.
  • Promote a harmonious working environment.
  • Keep lines of communication open and functioning by listening, expressing opinions, asking questions and clarifying when needed.
  • Treat equipment and facilities with care and respect.
  • Make efficient use of time and resources.
  • Attend and successfully complete training required by the job.
  • Adhere to Hill Country MHDD policies and procedures of the program or department to which they are assigned.
  • Observe safety practices, rules and operating procedures
Position Requirements

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • License to practice as Registered Nurse in the State of Texas
  • High School Diploma/GED


  • RN License
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

Physical Requirements:

  • Walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry over 20 pounds
  • Able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
