Astronics - DME, a leader in aerospace safety products and applications, is expanding our engineering team at our organization located in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Our engineering team designs portable products for commercial and general aviation aircraft.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Understand existing circuit designs, schematics, and layouts and assist in the troubleshooting of nonconforming product. Create modified and clean-sheet designs to support product derivatives and new product development. Designs shall meet customer-defined requirements which include electromagnetic interference (EMI) requirements of RTCA DO-160.
Select appropriate components for applications based on performance requirements, de-rating analysis, reliability considerations, and other failure modes. Respond to obsolescence notifications on existing components by identifying and qualifying suitable substitutes.
Design and implement software of embedded devices and systems from concept through production and commercial deployment. Design, develop, code, test, and debug test support equipment software. Resolve any integration issues between software and hardware.
Lead the preparation of any documentation required to show compliance to customer or government requirements.
Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers. Follow department procedures for configuration control and documentation standards.
The candidate must work closely with individuals from all disciplines, including sales, procurement, manufacturing, and quality.
Domestic travel may be occasionally required.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates for this position must have:
B.S. degree in electrical engineering.
Three years' experience in analog or digital circuit design.
U.S. Person
Preferable experience
Exposure to RTCA DO-178 or DO-254.
Coding ability in C and C++

Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Possess the ability identify problems, deal with them, and work towards a solution.
Physical Demands*
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to pull handles and push buttons. Requirements may also include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
