The Education Coordinator supervises the design and implementation of evidence-based, developmentally appropriate, inclusive early care and education programs for young children ages 2-7 years. This role provides consultation and technical assistance to early care and education staff and RBTs around best practices in early childhood education including methodologies to support the learning of children with a range of disabilities.

  • Develops a program that creates and maintains a culture of behavior support via hands-on individual and family engagement.
  • Responsible for Implementing specific behavioral support services to achieve individual goals for all identified individuals as well as model for teachers, parents, etc., strategies to support behavior plan implementation.
  • Supervises the planning and implementation of daily activities for indoor and outdoor learning environments that encourage each child’s growth in social, emotional, cognitive, language and physical development.
  • Reviews lesson plans to ensure they are developmentally appropriate and in compliance with state regulations.
  • Oversees training and implementation of curriculum for children birth through age five.
  • Monitors lesson plans and classroom schedules for children B-5 to insure curriculum and lesson plans are being followed during approved scheduled times.
  • Collaborates with family, teachers, therapists and other professionals to design integrated specialized services.
  • Assists in the oversight of daily operations to ensure compliance with programmatic, health and safety regulations across all learning environments in the absence of the Center Director and Assistant Center Director, including monitoring and adjusting classroom ratios to meet regulatory standards.
  • Oversees special education and pediatric therapy services to ensure appropriate service delivery as authorized by the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) or Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Ensures on-going assessment of child outcomes (B-5 years) through a variety of developmentally appropriate, culturally & linguistically responsive methods that are tied to daily activities.
  • Coordinates and may administer standardized screening and evaluation as needed for eligibility determination, goal development, and progress reporting.
  • Coordinates the development and/or review and implementation of IFSP / IEP, with child’s family, service coordinator, therapists, preschool coordinator and/or other professionals and in accordance with CDSA/ LEA protocol.
  • Collaborates with family, CDSA, LEA to facilitate smooth transitions between settings and services.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position assists Center Director and Assistant Center Director in the supervision of Lead Teachers, Assistant Teachers and Substitute staff.

The Educational Coordinator works in a center-based setting with indoor and outdoor learning environments. May work in extreme climate (hot/cold) conditions for short periods. May spend time sitting on the floor or child-sized furniture. May come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff, and self. Will be exposed to cleaning and sanitation solutions. Travel, at times overnight, may be required. Problem-solving is a major function and may involve stressful or crisis situations.

Position Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education or related field from a college or university accredited by an entity approved by USDOE or CHEA.
  • NC B-K or pre-k add on licensure preferred
  • Infant Toddler Family Specialist Certification preferred
  • 3 years of supervisory / coordination experience in Pre-K environment
  • 3+ years verifiable early childhood work experience
  • Strong classroom background with DCDEE guidelines
  • Prior experience with Positive Behavioral Management Programs
  • Experience providing services to children with disabilities

Skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of child development and recommended practices in service provision for children who are typically developing and those with or at risk for developmental or behavioral/emotional disabilities.
  • Provide direct services to children and to maintain effective collaborative relationships with parents service coordinators, LEA representatives, and other professionals.
  • Understand services for children and families as dictated by IDEA parts C&B including parental rights, family-centered services, and natural environment practices. Understand the relationship of ESUCP to agencies with which we contract to provide part C & B services.
  • Knowledge of related community resources.
  • Working knowledge of responsibilities and accountability related to any grant-funded activities.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills including clarity and articulation of thought, appropriate grammar, style, form, and punctuation.

Essential physical requirements:

  • Possess the visual acuity to develop written correspondence and determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of talking, hearing, sitting, standing for long periods of time and performing repetitive motions, such as using a computer.
  • Must be able to meet physical demands of lifting, carrying, pushing and / or pulling; some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching and / or crawling.
  • Must be able to lift up to 55 pounds.
