Summary:

The Academy is seeking an attorney with experience in entertainment media and general corporate matters to help with legal and business issues in connection with the organization’s activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements related to broadcast productions, live-events, sponsored promotions, and content licensing.
  • Assist in management and enforcement of Academy trademarks.
  • Provide counsel on employment matters.
  • Draft, review and negotiate agreements related to charitable donations and grants.
  • Assist other in-house and outside counsel with the overall management of department workload.
  • Other matters as assigned.
 
Position Requirements
  • J.D. and license to practice law in California.
  • At least 3-8 years of legal experience in relevant areas, either in-house, at a law firm, or combination of both.
  • Experience in legal and business affairs related to television, new media or live event production.
  • Excellent drafting skills and the ability to work independently, accurately and with diplomacy and good judgement.
  • Ability to provide creative solutions to complex business and legal issues, across a variety of subject matters, scenarios, and alternatives.
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization and time management skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Expertise in copyright and trademark law.
  • Working knowledge of guild agreements (SAG-AFTRA, DGA, WGA, AFM).
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, donations and grants.
  • Experience with sponsorships, promotions and contests.
