Description

U.S. News & World Report is seeking an Audience Development Specialist that will prove to be a vital resource in maintaining its daily presence on social media as a historically influential brand. The ideal candidate will need excellent writing skills to produce engaging content that leverages topical, relevant conversations across social media.

Through daily posting to branded channels, this strategist will bring a social voice to U.S. News' content, engaging readers in conversations to help them make informed decisions about their health, finances and more.

Responsibilities:

  • Writing accurate, engaging and brand-appropriate social media posts and threads for the across the News/Civic vertical for all U.S. News branded social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn).

  • Measure and assess performance of News/Civic posts on U.S. News social platforms to refine short- and long-term strategy, using audience development tools like CrowdTangle, Parse.ly and Adobe Analytics.

  • Work in real time with editors and reporters to craft social headlines and discuss social presentation for our news content.

  • Attend weekly editorial meetings with the News/Civic team to stay abreast of upcoming coverage/packages and offer insight for social framing. Occasionally pitch story ideas based on audience trends.

  • Develop promotion plans and strategies for product launches and content packages to ensure maximum social visibility alongside daily News content.

  • Brainstorming ways to repackage and repromote existing content to maximize traffic and audience engagement.

  • Identify potential areas for growth on U.S. News social platforms and work with audience team members to implement new strategies.

  • Train editorial staff on relevant social tools such as CrowdTangle.

  • Staying abreast of social media best practices and trends in digital news and infusing those ideas into U.S. News content.

 
Position Requirements

Desired Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of editorial-based social media experience preferable in the news space

  • Experience building an audience through social networks, such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

  • Exceptional writing skills and the ability to respond quickly to trends

  • Experience using analytics to make decisions

  • Experience producing and editing simple graphics, GIFs, video and/or photos

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to balance multiple tasks at once

  • A critical eye for optimizing content to fit different platforms

  • Paid social experience a plus.
