Job Summary: Reporting to the Director of Public Services, the Assistant Director for Programs and Partnerships leads the Office of Programs and Partnerships which coordinates a continuum of quality programming for all ages across all library locations and community venues, and supports the necessary partnerships and collaborations that ensure community input and engagement. The Office is a key partner in the success of young people - providing access to spaces, materials, programs and activities that support learning readiness, future focus, educational attainment, career exploration and life skills development. It will organize learning experiences and programs for adults through innovative and high-quality programming that supports education and enlightenment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide strategic direction for and supervision of Coordinator of Children’s Services, Coordinator of Teen Services, Coordinator of Community Engagement, Coordinator of Adult Programming, and the Coordinator of Volunteer Services;
  • Ensure a range of developmentally appropriate programs, services and activities to engage children and teens;
  • Ensures that Library programs and services reflect and incorporate the diverse communities within our service area in a manner that is both equitable and inclusive;
  • Oversee the development, coordination, management and maintenance of concerted outreach efforts in all Pittsburgh communities, targeted to Children, Teens, Adults and seniors;
  • Develop, nurture, and strengthen meaningful partnerships and collaborations with community agencies and institutions that support CLP’s mission, vision and goals;
  • Oversee development of signature programs and events that engage the community in literacy and learning, and facilitate effective relationships between program developers and the Communications and Creative Services team to raise the profile of the Library as the leading literacy and learning institution in the City;
  • Ensure a robust and integrated volunteer program to support the library’s mission;
  • Analyze, interpret and act upon data and trends in library programming, both locally and nationally;
  • Advocate on behalf of the Library to develop future collaboration for CLP programming;
  • Identify programmatic funding opportunities and potential sponsors for the development office;
  • Strategically assign resources to accomplish stated goals and determine measures of success, both in outputs and outcomes, which support the mission of engaging the community in literacy and learning;
  • Serve as a liaison and participant with Allegheny County Library Association member libraries in all relevant work to offer excellent library service in the county;
  • Serve as a liaison to the Board of Trustees and related committees on issues related to programming, outreach, partnerships and other topics as assigned.

 
Position Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited university;
  • Eight years of progressive supervisory, management and administrative experience in a significant public library system, including programming/event coordination experience;
  • Five years of experience in relationship building and collaborative efforts within the community.
  • Understanding of public library operations, services and functions; the place of the library in relation to government, educational institution and the larger community;
  • Knowledge of modern and complex principles and practices of public library program and service development for all ages and developmental stages – including preschool, school-age children and teens, particularly for a modern urban library;
  • Ability to exhibit innovation, creativity, leadership and personnel management;
  • Ability to develop and monitor departmental budget;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including public speaking and presenting;
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse public and staff; including executives, community leaders, elected officials and governmental representatives;
  • Ability to articulate a vision and strategic direction to a wide variety of audiences;
  • Awareness and understanding of principles of equity, diversity and inclusion;
  • Flexibility and adaptability; and a willingness to embrace and drive change initiatives.
  • Ability to influence others, negotiate to a successful resolution, and engage in effective problem solving;
  • Effectively plan, assign, evaluate and direct the work of others, both paid and volunteer;
  • Actively cultivate new professional connections within the community and the library profession.
  • Ability to independently travel locally, regionally and nationally as required for related work, outreach, meetings and professional development opportunities;
  • PA State Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Criminal Records Check, and Mandated Reporter Training upon offer of employment.
 
Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time  
Work Hours 37.5 hours per week, plus extended hours including evenings or weekends as needed, on a regular basis.  
Salary $82,000-$92,000 annually
