Summary of Duties

The Dangerous Goods Specialist analyzes regulatory concerns and issues pertaining to the distribution of various products with a strong knowledge of DOT, EPA and IATA regulations. In addition, this position provides regulatory guidance and direction regarding the distribution of hazardous materials. Ensures proper compliance with local and international laws and regulations.

Oversight of the Day-to-Day operation in respect to Dangerous Goods transport.

Communicate and advice of any operational needs or concerns based on daily activity / briefings.

Performs regulatory coding in support of new and existing products.

Manage Dangerous Goods Manual/Procedure and Work Instructions in accordance with US and Intl regulations.

Keeps current on up and coming regulations that are associated with the transportation industry for hazardous materials. Reviews final rules and assesses compliance requirements.

Analyzes potential situation(s), and makes necessary compliance adjustments to products that may be affected.

Support the Dangerous Goods Auditing process (documentation, emergency procedures, training, facilities, and compliance) for the Company, including the ones extending to our Customers, ground handlers and vendors - as applicable.

Recommends new/corrective measures to ensure compliance with internal and external policy.

Control data collection tools and maintain relevant data relevant to Dangerous Goods transport, critical tasks and events, including discrepancies, incidents or accidents.

Manage the approval / rejection of transport requests and interact with domestic/foreign authorities on Dangerous Goods exemptions and approvals.

Qualifications

Solid personal computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Thorough knowledge of domestic and international air dangerous goods regulations.

SAP knowledge is a plus.

B.S. College degree (preferred) or equivalent experience required.

3-5 years' experience with regulations (i.e. DOT, IATA, EPA, Safety, etc.).

Strong organization skills and attention to details are essential in this position along with the capability of handling copious amounts of information.

Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.

Five years' experience working with customs broker, freight forwarder, or importer with direct import/export experience.
