What You Would Be Doing

The clinician/social worker works in a school-based setting with a residential component and reports to the clinical manager and is responsible for ensuring that the medically related emotional and social needs of the clients are met and maintained on an individual basis in accordance with policies and procedures, and current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. This position will provide support at the Ohio School For the Deaf (OSD). OSD provides a comprehensive Kindergarten through 12 grade educational program and dormitory designed to support individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing in developing independence, and life-long learning while promoting social development and culture awareness. Hours will be 4 -10 hour shifts, Mon-Thurs, Friday, Saturday and Sundsay off.

  • Develops a comprehensive social history and psychosocial assessment that includes the client's problems, strengths, and preferences; including cultural, religious, and ethnic background and implications for the care plan.
  • Helps clients and families identify needs and develop a service plan to meet those needs.
  • Orients clients and families to the program, its services, its service limitations, and clients' rights.
  • Works in collaboration with behavior technicians and provides behavioral health competency training to Qualified Behavioral Health Specialist level staff.
  • Involves clients, school personnel, and families in treatment planning, encouraging their attendance at care conferences or with outside providers/professionals.
  • Attends scheduled care conferences and identifies and interprets psychosocial needs of clients for inclusion in the care plan.
  • Completes mandatory documentation within timelines established by applicable regulations and policies.
  • Provides linkage with appropriate community resources by maintaining knowledge of other systems, making referrals, and identifying unmet needs (e.g., recreational transportation, adaptive phone equipment, etc.).
  • Provides clients and families with crisis management services as needed.
  • Develops a comprehensive discharge plan in collaboration with clients, clients' families, multidisciplinary staff, and referral agencies.
  • Trains and consults with staff regarding psychosocial needs that encompass behavioral health, development, and diversity of individual clients to increase staff knowledge and skills.
  • Educates staff about any relevant state legislation or regulations relating to behavioral health services.
  • Advocates on a case, policy, and program level.
  • Participates in policy decision making within the school in a way that encompasses an understanding of the issues and implications relevant to the developmental and behavioral health needs of clients.
  • Meets productivity requirements of 25 billable hours per week.
  • Provide clinical review and audit of clients' charts and documentation to ensure compliance and support quality improvement.
 
Position Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social work or related field.
  • Licensed through the State of Ohio as an LSW/LPC/LISW/LPCC.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • One to two (1-2) years of supervised social work experience in a health care setting, working directly with individuals.
  • Experience working with the deaf and hearing-impaired population.
  • Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and families with developmental disabilities and complex behavioral health disorders.
  • Experience working with people involved in multi-system care.
