Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor or designee, the Direct Support Paraprofessional provides respite, residential, personal care, personal assistance, socialization, integration and/or habilitative services to individuals supported by the program. These services exclude those that are considered rehabilitative in nature.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists with identifying individual goals.
  • Assists in developing and monitoring outcomes and adjusts as needed.
  • Assists individuals we support with inclusion.
  • Respects the dignity and individuality of each individual and his/her right to confidentiality.
  • Ensures that the safety, health, hygiene and nutritional needs of the individuals we support are met.
  • Lifts and transfers individuals we support as needed.
  • Assists individuals at learning and increasing skills in all areas of independence. This includes, but is not limited to: self-help skills, independent living skills, accessing community resources, vocational contract work, pre-vocational activities and pursuit of leisure activities. If an individualized plan exists, this document serves as guide for these supports.
  • Completes required paperwork (may vary by location) accurately and as required by program.
  • Assists individuals with daily activities, personal care, home care and maintenance, employment search and maintenance, transportation.
  • Provides direct interventions to build socialization, behavior management skills and daily/community living skills.
  • Communicates with other staff and supervisor on progress, needs, concerns and changes.
  • Attends staff meetings as required.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality, and follows all policies and procedures regarding time off.
  • Follows all ESUCP Policies and Procedures.
  • Demonstrates Easter Seals valued behaviors of Accountability, Commitment and Caring as appropriate to position.
  • Completes required training within prescribed timeframes.
  • Performs related duties as requested.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent appropriately accredited by the appropriate state department of education.
  • Two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Have a valid North Carolina driver’s license, good driving record and insurability is required.
  • Must have reliable transportation that will allow movement throughout the program delivery area.
