About the Region

Canine Companions for Independence was founded in Santa Rosa, California in 1975. The National Headquarters and Northwest Training Center are located on the Jean and Charles Schulz Campus in Santa Rosa, California. The Schulz Campus, named after generous supporters Jean and Charles Schulz, opened in 1996. The Northwest Region serves people in Northern California, Northern Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Alaska.


Schedule Information M-F, approx 9-5.

This position is responsible for the successful launch, maintenance, growth and reporting of strategic projects within the Technology & Information Systems department. Position is responsible for proactively building relationships across functional areas to ensure project success, shareholder satisfaction, and growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed:

  • Gather, interpret, and communicate complex ideas and business concepts as technical requirements.
  • Determine technical needs across the organization and develop project plans to manage and execute.
  • Implement project plans and manage deliverables across project lifecycle.
  • Write technical requirements, including: functional/business requirements, use cases, user stories, developer requirements/estimates, and technical documentation.
  • Direct the delivery of solutions utilizing best practices for the nature of the project (such as software release management).
  • Coordinate tasks among project team members, other internal departments and vendor organizations as needed to meet project goals and ensure project completion is on schedule, within budget and of the appropriate quality standards for the project scope.
  • Manage technology projects’ scope, goals, and deliverables to support organization-wide goals in collaboration with its stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify significant project risks, develop mitigation strategies, escalate to leadership, and implement approved mitigation steps.
  • Track project costs by monitoring time and expense charged to the project against a budget.
  • Provide recurring project status updates to project stakeholders. Generate and interpret different reports both on routine and ad-hoc bases.
  • Coordinates the development and revision of technical but user-friendly documents (Tools, Templates, Techniques, Training).
  • Coordinate set-up of appropriate testing environments and develop and execute test plans. Assist with user acceptance testing.
Position Requirements


  • Good decision making, organization, analysis and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to react to changes in priorities, timelines, and scope promptly and efficiently, through analytical and problem-solving techniques.
  • Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office suite of software, including Visio and Project.
  • Demonstrate conceptual understanding of databases including data structures and data flows.
  • Demonstrate ability to coordinate cross-functional groups to accomplish goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative work spirit.
  • Outstanding time and work management skills required. Ability to multi-task and able to organize and maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential records.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to effectively interact with staff, vendors and other contacts.

EXPERIENCE: 3+ years of demonstrated success in project management using recognized PMI methodologies.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or related field; equivalent experience will be considered.

LICENSES: CAPM and/or PMP certification is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS: General office conditions apply. The noise level in work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Some travel and weekend work required.
