Summary

Astronics - Luminescent Systems Inc., a leader in aerospace lighting technology and applications, is expanding our Engineering team at our organization located in East Aurora, NY. Our engineering team designs products for commercial and military aircraft using a variety of lighting technologies (LED, electroluminescent, high intensity discharge, and incandescent).

Essential duties and responsibilities

This job description does not imply that these are the only duties performed. Employees occupying this position will be required to follow any other related instructions and to perform any other job related duties requested by their supervisor.   • Lead development projects. The ultimate objective for this position is to successfully lead a technical team in a fast paced, high pressure environment, on assigned product development projects from inception to production. The PM will utilize effective communication, problem resolution, technical decision making, and project management skills to accomplish the objectives. Success criteria for this position will be development of a collaborative working relationship with the technical team and successful completion of the assigned product development projects by meeting customer expectations, product technical performance, and deliverable milestones on schedule, NRE budget, and product recurring design to cost targets.
  • Manage external customer expectations, communications, negotiations, and scope creep. The primary goal of the PM will be to successfully build and manage external customer relationships and expectations to reduce risk to the company utilizing effective communication and management skills. Success criteria for this position will be building or fostering existing relationships with key external customer contacts and management of contracts and engineering change requests based on requested technical changes and/or scope creep eliminating NRE, cost overruns and/or schedule delays.
  • Problem solve, both internal and with the customer both technical and commercial issues. The successful PM will leverage their problem resolution skills, communication skills, problem management skills, and experience to resolve issues in a timely manner with positive concurrence from all sides.
  • Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with engineering, operations, upper management and external customers. The PM will provide clear direction, planning, clarification, guidance, decisions, status, and issue resolution utilizing informal email, formal Word & Excel correspondence, PowerPoint presentations, and MS Project as applicable.
  • The candidate must work closely with non-subordinates from all disciplines using effective influence and teamwork.
  • This position will have SOX404 reporting requirements.

Education and Experience

  • B.S. degree or relevant industry experience is required.
  • 5+ years of multi discipline team leadership experience and product design in manufactured products.
  • Experience in the aerospace industry highly desired

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Due to federal contract obligations, must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Does not have any supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a coach and mentor for other positions within the organization.

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS

Ability and willingness for up to 50% business travel to divisional locations nationwide and international.

Skills

Language Skills

Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

Writing Skills

The ability to write contract letters, establishing positions, writing scope documents, writing proposals.

Mathematical Skills

Possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measurement, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Possess the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands *

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and or arms to pull handles and push buttons and reach objects. Requirements may also include climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching or crawling. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
